Built cars---ordered when?
For those who have cars confirmed as "built" &/or "bayed", when did you place your order and whom did you order from? Just wondering if cars are being built by ordered date, Dealership ranking, or some other formula?

Some members here have done even better at higher volume dealerships. It's all about sales volume and allocation. I think Stanford sells about 150-200 Vettes annually and I would guess their initial allocation to be close to those numbers.

I think there are a few on here with more intimate knowledge of this thing actually works. However, I would say in WAG that the cars are built more according to similar option packages and requirements in order to keep things more efficient on the line. Not sure that specific order dates has much to do with it. I think the order dates and such will come into play more on shipping and delivery. I would expect that all the first consensus buyers will be taking delivery w/ in the same week, follwed by second and such. But I reserve my American Right to be wrong.

Congrats to all
Can't believe my order went to "Production Complete" just this morning! We will celebrate by going to the Kansas State Fair tonight to see Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I believe Alfie is correct - it is all about allocation. I can give you my example to support this. My dealer has a small allocation - only 3 coupes. I am number 3 of 3. His first car is out for delivery - that car had a deposit in January and was picked up in the first round. His second car is just being picked up now - hopefully that one will be built in October. Mine will be picked up after that. As others have said - the allocation is "spread" over the initial 6-9 month period. If a dealer has 300 cars allocated I'd suspect 100 in the first period, 100 in the middle, and 100 near the end.

Her's the way I understand it. (could be wrong) The pros can correct me.
Dealers are being given hard, real production slots based on how they sold previous generations. Only the dealer knows if he will get a car built soon. For example, a nefarious dealer will take your money and not be able to get it built as he has used up his allocation. The easiest way to tell if you got a real build slot is after you give him your deposit he gives you a order number within a week or so, and that the number goes to at least order status 2000 or above as you track it. Anything below 2000 means he's submitted it but it does not get accepted by Chevrolet.

But its not true first in/first out (FIFO) in the sense that strict allocation dates drive the production dates. From what's been passed here (e.g. from Talon) the line is optimized for efficiency, so cars may be made in blocks/batches based on spec. A later allocation (albeit a close one) may go first if it meets the production plans.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though. with over sixty years of experience and now seven generations, I would think they have a system in place.
