Default Fresh air intake

Where is the fresh air intake for the vent system? is it the mesh covered opening under the hood by the wipers? is that the only opening. i had a mouse nest in the cabin filter and am trying to understand how it got in there other than the filter door that was actually open. is there any way a mouse could get in other than the cabin filter opening?

The damned things go up the vent near your feet. How they get in the car is the question to be asked. Mine had a nest when I got it from St. Louis 3 years ago. Nothing since. Reverse engineering 101.

Yes, that mesh covered opening is where fresh air comes in. But it also has to deal with water
from rain or washing so there are openings on either side under the mesh to allow this. I tried
to investigate this when I had my windshield replaced and the mesh was removed, but couldn't
see much. You could take a gallon jug of water and pour it though the mesh and see where it
comes out under the car.

Any opening the size of a dime is all that is needed for a mouse to gain entrance, I have found that a good old fashioned spring trap with a little peanut butter dabbed on it will usually do the trick

Traps will solve the mouse problem. Doesn’t take much of an opening for the critter to gain entrance to your car.
