carbon fiber instrument panel delayed
Ordered my C7 today and was told that the these are delayed. No specifics on how much of a delay, but it looks like the demand exceeded the estimates. Happy to wait for it. Saw it in Monterey and looks great.

I'm beginning to think this is intentional. Maybe they priced it to low and the bean counters are telling them to discourage their sales? I cannot believe its merely a production issue when they had this long to prepare.

No idea, but I doubt that they planned it. I have a carbon fiber interior package in my Audi R8 and it was something like $5k so I am not feeling like the Chevy price is out of line at all. In fact, all of their options are bargains compared to the Euro alternatives. Go price a Porsche. Any reasonable options will hugely increase the price.

GM awarded a company in Turkey to make this part. This part is not an easy part to make. I was in procurement in the Aero Space Industry for many years (now retired) and if I would have sourced this part to an unstable foreign country I would have had my head handed to me. There are a lot of companies in this country that could do a good job of making this part. Sorry GM...bad move.

Remember the bean counters. They can get it cheaper if American workers don't make it. So much for the Bunch that say they buy the Vette because it is "made in America". Should say "assembled in America" with many foreign parts - just like everything else.

Interesting article here on carbon fiber.

I wonder who makes the parts for GM and what their production capacity is?
Oh, just answered, maybe. Doesn't seem like something that's mass produced easily.

No... I'm serious.
The expected yield rate goes down as the vendor underestimated the job. He wants to raise the price and GM balks. GM doesn't want to raise prices on this option as it will lose face. The vendor holds back production.
GM is stuck with orders it can't fill so it discourages people from ordering it by telling dealers to "warn" clients that their cars "could be" delayed.
Call it a conspiracy but this idea that the dealers are telling customers potential problems without even bothering to check the factory sounds extremely strange to me.
Why not just order it, have the factory say yes or no, and then move from there?

You have to be kidding. Who in their right mind would source a part like this to Turkey ? Maybe they saved a few bucks but they could have found a domestic supplier if they tried hard enough. I do agree that the FAY option looks fantastic. They should have made it standard on all Z51 modes. The dash looks too plain without it.

I guess that Aston Martin is also part of this issue, as the same manufacturer who makes the CF dash piece for the C7 makes all of Aston Martin's carbon fiber pieces.
On one hand folks have been unhappy that GM doesn't hasn't historically had the highest quality parts, now when GM selects the same supplier as Aston Martin, and folks really like the piece, and choose it way beyond GM's initial projections, some criticize GM for having a quality part customers really, really want -- again, customers' purchasing that part way above GM's projected purchasing "take rate" projections.
Shame on GM for having an optional part so many want, and are willing to pay almost a $1000 for.

we were told 4 weeks ago this would be handled, as of last week, still running only 20% of the orders would be accepted with FAY....man if I could rant here......whew....
