Why compare the Ls-3 in the Camaro.
The real story is the ls-3 is much closer than the comparo.
Looks like the Corvette Ls-3 just needs some light mods like headers to
hang with the C-7. Mine made 420plus with headers!

411 / 0.87 = ~472.41 HP
(taking 13% loss into account.)

Or the GT500...

Both were kind of stupid comparisons. They should have compared to a LS3 C6 and a LS7 C6.

Pretty sweet numbers. Car sounds great. They had it in track mode and you could hear the exhaust valves open. I wonder if that's what causes the jump in torque around 3800 RPM. Would be nice if you could do something to keep that higher level of torque in the lower RPM rangers as well.

Here's their dyno run:

And a comparison to the Camaro SS:

Could be when the variable valve timing kicked in full bore.

Maybe, but would imagine the variable valve timing would be a steady transition over RPM range in order to keep the torque as constant and as high as possible. This reminds me more of V-tec, rather than a well controlled variable valve setup. You definitely could be right, though.

One other thing: it looks like this engine really needs some air at the top end. Compare with how flat the torque is on Edmunds test of the Ford Boss 302 motor:

I wonder if/when GM will have a set of hot cams for this engine.

The article said it was due to the exhaust valves. Can't wait for more results !

Nice numbers. The torque at low rpms is amazing.

13 percent has not been the number since GM started using the SAE certified system. Look at the thread a couple of weeks ago asking for guesses. I guessed 410 for that reason. My LS3 was just under 11 percent.

Seriously impressed! Great job again! 40+MPG on the highway, and 411whp! Dafaq?

I agree. Manual transmission Vettes are closer to 11% then 13%.

I guessed 405rwhp based on the 11.9% loss on my Z06..

But, as most of us understand, you cannot take a chassis dyno reading and then calculate the engine's horsepower from it. To many uncontrolled variables. The 460 horsepower is SAE certified, and a 472 horsepower guess at the flywheel derived from the rear wheel horsepower reading is a false belief.

Those numbers are very close to what my LS3 did with long tubes and a mild tune. That car was a rocket. It will be interesting to see what the tuners can do with these new motors.

I had guessed in the range of 415 rwhp for the M7 cars (SAE), so they are there.
