From Yahoo News, an interview with Tadge Juechter dated April 2, 2013:
http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoram...154747632.html
Wherein he says:
What's the response to the idea there could be a sub-Stingray model Corvette?
It's a load of crap. It's fabricated.

I don’t believe that Chevy will risk losing the prestige that they have spent 60 years building. Sure, GM wants to sell more Corvettes, but cheapening it’s Halo Car would be foolish. They want/need this car to be in the $60K-$100K range. They’ve got Camaro for $25K-$50K. They’d also **** of an EXTREMELY loyal customer base.
They can increase sales, maintain profitability, lower the average buyer’s age, and take a giant step to making Corvette a world car, not by looking to Europe….but by looking to China. China has a huge population, half of whom are under the age of 25, millions of whom are rich. The Chinese take great pride in their cars….the businessmen I deal with are car fanatics.
GM already manufactures Buick’s, Chevy’s and Caddies in Shanghai and Buick’s in particular are regarded very highly over there. They also love prestige names (Dior, Gucci, BMW, Lambo, et al.). Think there’s a long U.S. waiting list for Vette’s right now? The Chinese market would go crazy for this car.
Move the “world” production to Shanghai. Then…spin off Corvette into it’s own 3-model company (base-model Corvette, Z51 becomes “StingRay”, and StingRay-Z06).
P.S.: Tadge: if you want to thank me (or hire me) I’m waiting for your PM.

One point, however - the Camaro is NOT an entry-level Corvette. It completely lacks the handling prowess and light-weight-ness of the Corvette. About the only thing they have in common performance-wise is an engine. I don't even consider the Camaro to be a sports car. It's a muscle car.

We are in need of trade .....lets send the c7 to china...
I'd imagine the ultra rich in china would own one just to say the have one...
I bet corvette could easily match Audi r8, Ferrari 458 and Porsche sales there...
Don't move production there ...we want Americans to have the work.

Vant: I understand and agree with your noting the differences between the two cars. I just believe that having a Corvette and Camaro at similar price points would muddy the market and reduce GM's profit/car.

It is not going to happen...they can take content such as power seats out of the new C7 and meet a lower pice point. To start with another power plant and different drive train parts puts you back into government compliance and testing programs. Very expensive to certify. But that is just my opinion.

Bill, they don't have a choice if they want to compete in a number of the emerging markets where the income is no where near what we as Americans make.

They can't be spending their time and money on this. They need to move forward with the performance models.
