Where I live the attendant has to pump the fuel. I don’t like random people touching my ride after I wash it. My vetts get treated like queens. I'm sure I'm not the only one on this forum that feels this way.

Yes, push on the door and it opens whether the car is on or off.

Push on the gas nozzle door and it will not open. You need to push on it with the gas pump nozzle to open it. Ford has this setup years ago. If you want to put gas in from a gas can, there will be a special plastic funnel that comes with the car to allow it to open the fuel nozzle door so you can pour gas in from a gas can.

This is not new technology, it is old.

most new luxury cars have had em for a decade... cleans up fine cause the dirt doesnt cake like on plastic... it's to damper sound from wheel wells.

Inner cap closes on it's own when the fuel nozzle is removed. Outer cap with your hand ........

I think the concern is that if it works like this, then there isn't much deterrent to keep someone from getting access to your gas tank, whether that is to put something in it or steal your gas. If it actually locks when the car locks, then it seems like a great design. If it works the way you say, I would rather have the fuel door release in the car and I would see this as a cost cutting on Chevy's part (though some who can find no fault in the Corvette would probably praise Chevy for weight savings).

I saw the wheel well material on C7's when at the Museum in June and confirmed with the GM reps that it will be on all vehicles. I still wonder how it looks when you get road tar stuck on to it. It's porous, so tar, etc. will not just stay on the surface like the plastic wheel liners-same for any other kind of colored liquid that may get on to it and stain.

Now this is interesting.................
Perhaps this is the answer for the premature gas fill /gas tank shut off problem. I had it on both the C5 & 6 . It would be nice of GM to address this issue finally.

I've have it in the wells of my 2010 Lexus RX450h with over 50,000 miles now. It's like new in there. I just hose it with the rinse nozzle when I wash the car. I've driven through wet GA Red Clay (I hate that stuff) on the road and it cleans like any other wheel well would.

Looking at the pic, it looks like it does lock when the car is locked. Only a assumption but willing to bet it does. Why else would it have the tab on the door in a wedge shape with a hole in it except possibly for a actuator plunger to lock it.
