Keep Existing 1100 Status Order or try another dealer?
Hello Forum Friends!
I was hoping for some advice and guidance. I placed my C7 deposit with Freedom Chevrolet in San Antonio back in April. On May 21st they called me to finalize my order so it could be placed into Workbench and provided me with my official order # RBSHD1.
Here is my problem.....my order status is still 1100 How is this possible? I hear people saying on the forum that orders prior to May 22nd were "1st Concensus". However I also hear that "1st Concensus" orders are at 3000 or above. Why am I at 1100 still?
My dealer is not much help. They just keep saying that they have no good insight or info to pass along. They claim to be the largest volume Corvette dealer in San Antonio, TX. I am supposedly #8 out of 12 Stingray's they were allocated. Everyday on the forum I read about people who literally just placed their orders being moved into 2000 status.
Should I cancel my order and place it with another dealership like Kerbeck or Rick Conti (or any other recommended dealership with Corvette knowlege and clout) and just pay for a "courteousy delivery" to a local San Antonio dealer?
All I care about is getting my C7 as quickly as possible. If that means paying a few hundred bucks extra for a "courteousy delivery" I will gladly order from another dealer. But at the same time considering when my original order was placed almost 2 months ago would I be prolonging my agonizing wait by trying to order from someone else at this point?
HELP!!!!!

I had similar thoughts regarding changing at the beginning of the month when my dealer got zero C7s picked up in the July 4th consensus. But I am staying with them, I knew when I ordered that I was #8 of 10 allocated and my salesman has been great. Gave me allocation number, my number in their order list and keeps me posted on orders that get picked (they just had 2 more picked up). In fact, my salesman even showed me the list of C7s that they have on order. My dealer and my salesman have done their job and then some. My experience is definitely better than many on this forum when dealing with local dealers. There are no sure things and a dealer may get 0 cars picked up in one consensus and 4 the next, you never know (or at least I don't). If you have had a good experience, I would stay with your dealer, just my opinion.
I ordered at Grand Prize Chevrolet in Miami, Fl. My salesman is their Corvette Specialist and Internet Sales Manager, David Cruz. I keep saying how satisfied I am with them so I may as well put their name in and give credit where it is due.
Good luck OP on whatever you decide.

Just call your dealership and ask for the actual SALES MANAGER who places the orders. Your salesman doesnt know much, but the Sales Manager actually places the orders and can look into the system to find out the allocation number he is given for order placement. Become friends with him.. by doing this, I moved from #8 on the list to #2 because he 'bumped' me ahead of others who didn't show as much interest as me

Interesting on the "bumps". While I would love to be bumped up (or down in number), I know I would be pissed if my order was held while someone else went ahead of me who placed their order later. I think that my dealer is fair and I can live with that. But it is an interesting question, should a dealer show favoritism?

When you have a customer who is calling 1x a week and showing huge interest, they are a guaranteed sell. They know I will be showing up, cash in hand, to buy my C7 the second the Michelins kiss the pavement here in SoCal. Many people are flakes, im a guy who gets things done and doesnt f**k around.. its in their best interest to bump a guy like me and the slugs showing little interest to the back of the line.

I hate to say, but a dealership is a business- they want to sell vehicles. Many times people place these orders, and end up buying something else / changing their minds and never calling the dealer to cancel the order.

Thanks for the advice guys......I called and spoke to Hollis at Freedom Chevy. He was very helpful He said that I am now actually #7 of 12 (someone dropped off and they filled his spot so the new guy moved to the back of the line).
He said they have the first 4 guys on the list at a 3300 status code and I could move out of 1100 "at any time". He was actually really helpful told me that Freedom Chevy is the official sponsoring dealer for the local Corvette Club. I'm thinking it's probably best to just stay put and not go through all of the trouble to find another dealer.
I seriously think I'm going to have a heart attack if I can't get my hands on my C7 soon. I'm not only driving myself crazy but I know my wife has already had enough of hearing me talk Corvette all day long.
Replay of last night laying in bed:
Wife: What are you doing?
Me: Ummmmmm
Wife: Your on that stupid website about Corvettes again aren't you?
Me: Ummmmmm...hold on I'm reading something
Wife: I already hate that damn car and it's not even here yet, it's all you do or talk about when your not at work....seriously how old are you?
Me: Ummmmmm.....ohhh, ohhh, check this out....I just found a picture of the new key FOB for the C7!!!!!
Wife: whatever.....

The "12" represents the "initial allocation estimate" that is for 6-9 months. You are number 8 of 12. Therefore, if your dealer received their allocations on a linear basis, you could expect your slot to come up 4 to 6 (8/12 * 6 or 9)months from the start of allocations actually being given to dealers (that first happened late May). Allocations are not linear for a variety of reasons (production ramp up, the fact that every one fo the approximately 900 dealers got at least 1 in the first consensus, there were no consensus cycles in June, etc.). Therefore, 4 to 6 months may be optimistic.

I have no idea. My guy called me in the morning and told me he had three slots in round two. He had one in round one. So, I was now at number two. He called me two hours later and said I was up and did I want any changes before he submitted my order. I did not ask what happened to numbers 2, 3 and 4. Now, when you think about it, a dealer can tell you that you are number six and you really are number six on his list. But, you have no way to know if he puts a person or two in front you. And, could a dealer tell everyone they are two spots lower than they really are so that he can tell a bunch of people he is moving them up a spot or to. All guesswork. I just took it at face value.

Good luck OP on whatever you decide.

That's been my experience. It depends on the dealership, but many have an inventory control manager who does all the ordering. And that person is not in sales at all. A sales manager, depending on the dealer may also do ordering.
