I don't think the OP was calling MO a joke, I think he was saying he wasn't the most valuable player in this game and the award was sort of a feel good thing rather than a valid accomplishment. At least I hope that's what the OP was saying because you're right, MO is no joke (and also, while he deserves recognition tonight, I think we all know he wasn't really the MVP of this particular game).

As a Redsox fan I feel like the perfect person to testify to the greatness that is MO. You wanna know who the greatest closer in the game was? Simple, its MO and the way you know its MO is because no one, and I mean no one filled an opposing team's fans with a sense of hopelessness when they were only down by 1 run in the 9th like he did. Seriously, no matter how good you were or how close the game felt, as soon as he walked in from the pen your heart sunk because you knew it was game over, any rally you had going was DOA. Turn out the lights, enter sandman.

Now, you wanna talk class? On the way to the 2004 world series the sox had several incredible comeback games against the yankees in the ALCS where somehow, someway MO was mortal and blew a few saves. It was shocking. Anyway, the following year on opening day the baseball scheduling gods deemed fit to have the yankees at fenway and during the player introductions the crowd roared with applause for MO. He wasn't stupid, he knew the whole stadium was making fun of him, thanking him for those blown saves. He knew the applause wasn't sincere, but what did he do? He smiled, laughed and tipped his cap, completely playing along with the joke. That was when he won me over.

I'm really happy that he was able to rehab and come back in shape after that achilles injury last year. He's been a warrior for so long that he deserves to go out on the field, in a game and not on a cart from batting practice. Most guys his age and with retirement looming would have packed it in and no one would have blamed him.

The game of baseball is losing one of its greats when he hangs up his cleats, and this Redsox fan will miss him.

Not a Yankees fan by any means, but I respect Rivera as the most class act athlete in professional sports today. When he retires at the end of this season it's going to be a huge loss for Major League Baseball. Don't know that he deserved MVP for this game, but then again nobody really stood out so why not give it to him for a career of unparalleled success.

It's kind of funny that the same team has the classiest guy in sports and also the biggest d-bag as well(talking about A-Roid of course). Te two couldn't be more opposite if they were born on different planets.

By the way, where are pics of the C7 he was given?

I couldn't agree more on MO. He is a class act and one hell of a pitcher. Glad to see him back after what should have been a career-ending injury last year, (******** fly ***** with his buddies in the outfield, no less). Hope he enjoys his Stingray for a long time to come.

I saw that he won the car, did they show that on TV (I shut off the game after the final out)?

There wasn't anyone who stood out as MVP at that game. If it wasn't his last all star game, I'm sure he would not have won, but at least he didn't take it away from anyone more deserving.

No finer person in baseball, the dominance was just a bonus.

They showed the Laguna Blue on the field behind Rivera.

That is exactly what I am saying. He did nothing in the game to deserve the MVP award.

Default why?

giving corvettes to multi-millionaires who probably could care less.

gm could get more PR "mileage" by just getting a picture of one on WHEATIES BOXES, since gm is trying to attract a younger demographics.

Pretty much agree that the Rivera winning the MVP award was due to his career stats and not so much what he did in the 8th inning - which of course was to shutdown the bats of the NL.

Here is the video to the MVP award presentation showing the Corvette Stingray:

I'm surprised that only one person has had a negative comment about GM giving a C7 away to a multi-millionaire and not a hard working commoner. LOL It doesn't bother me who they give the cars to, I hope he drives it though.
