Default What is your opinion on sales

Who thinks sales will beat all previous new release sales records?

I certainly do. The C7 is by far the biggest leap from one generation to the next. Unfortunately we had to be put through the release of the GS towards the end of the C6 run. But GM wanted to make sure the C7 was the best base model to date before releasing it, and for that I applaud them....what a beautiful car!

Every new generation is hailed as the greatest thing since sliced bread, so I'd imagine this will be no different.

I would think it would be a miracle if the C7 first year beats the C4 introduction year which was a gigantic change in the design and engineering over the C3's. I would think that GM would be ecstatic to even match the C6's first year:

1984 = 51,547 units produced

First year production for all 6 generation to date:

1953  300
1963 21153
1968 28,566
1984 51,547
1997 9,752
2005 37,372

1984 model year is a ringer because there was no '83.

The C7 will sell well, as said above, just like the other new gens.

That---- plus the FACT that so many potential buyers are put off by the rear end. I.M.O. all that are buying immediately would still be buying if the rear were more traditional.

First time Corvette owner and I do like the rear unlike many but that isn't my reason for switching. It's the interior. I do love the exterior lines and look but the interior sold me.

The sales figures for 1984 are really impressive!

I think they will be limited by production to break the all time record.

They could make the earlier cars faster.

I have a feeling that the allocations so far aren't nearly as hard to get as some people would like you to believe. I've talked to several dealers and none are even close to selling out what they have available. That being said I love the new car and like other people have said it looks MUCH MUCH better in person. I think sales will be slow at first then pick up quickly when people actually get some exposure to it.

First, only the really hardcore are following this thing now. There isn't even one car on the street or one write up in a magazine.

Second, a lot of people will not buy a car like this without a test drive.

Third, most people really don't want a bespoke program. They want to go to a dealer, see one on the lot they like, negotiate the price, and buy it to take it home. Waiting weeks or months just won't do it.

Fourth, the convertible start date is so far away, it's barely worth worrying about now. So, that's another 20-30% of car sales that are just sitting out there now.

Fifth, there are still some C6's out there at great prices. Until they are gone, you're stealing sales from the C7.

Once they hit the streets and can be seen in showrooms, the actual sales will take off.

Not everyone in the US is like us on this forum. We tend to forget that.

The 84 had an advantage as already mentioned, because there was no 83 AND the 84 started deliveries in March of 83 for a more than a year and a half selling period.

The C6 was introduced in the height of the real estate and financing boom when anybody with pocket change could get a loan. It's not going to be that easy this time. The C7 has some strong head winds with this economic climate.

I was really surprised to see how few C5s were sold the first year. Prior to that I hadn't given the Corvette a second glance since the early 70s.

1997 C5 started production in the middle of January, 1997 and ran through part of June 1997. Approximately five months of production. 1998 sales were great(full 12 months of production). There was a long changeover from the C4 to the C5 due to the radical new design of the C5, that severely cut into the 1997's production.

I'll take third place. 84 seems impossible to beat and it may be a tough to beat 05.

It's what's needed to clear all those C6's off the dealer's lots. Dealer throws in a set of luggage and marks the price of the car back up to MSRP and they will fly off the lots.

Besides the short production period another factor in the small 97 production figure was they only made coupes and the convertible was not available till the 98 came out.

When the C6 rolled out in 2005 the convertible was available and in fact when they did the reveal at the auto show it was a LMB convertible with cashmere interior that was the first C6 that they displayed.
