Default Pull in or Back in?

When you first arrive home with your new C7, will you pull straight in your garage or be a really brave new owner and back it in?

Backup camera with parking guide, dude... Combine that with the fact that the front wheels pivot and not the rear, and backing in is actually the safer, LESS daring thing to do.

What about the slide it in sideways or 180 degree slide in from front in to back options?

I assume this thread is about the looks of the car when parked. However, there is a slight "hook" to this question when public parking. Since 9/11, most states follow a Federal "request" that a vehicle's plate be visible to law enforcement during their normal activities. If you have no front plate, and back into a space, your plate is not visible to law enforcement driving by. It is not uncommon for a vehicle, especially if it meets the description of a car used in or affiliated with a crime, to be towed because an officer can not see a license from the patrol car while driving by.

This may be more of a problem for an Escalade, especially a black one, but if you have no front plate, back into a public space, and the police have your color Corvette on their watch list, yours might get towed.

Back in. No question. It's actually easier.

I always combat park. Never ever heard of the Federal request either.

Parallel parking aside, I generally don't back into public spaces, because it confuses and frightens other people. They expect you to head in, and when you make your move to back in there's no telling what they'll do. Try to zip past you? Try to take your space? Pedestrians walk right in your path? It's not worth the risk.

But at home I back in -- been doing it since I was one half of a two-car garage occupied by a pair of two-doors. I could get REALLY close to that wall. Much easier than heading in, thanks to the passenger side mirror.

That's an interesting tidbit, but I'd have to shake my head at anyone for whom that was a serious consideration on how they should park... You have probably a .0003% chance of this ever being a problem for you. Especially in a Corvette, and especially if you garage your car. If you're really worried about that, you should probably have a front plate. Not having one pretty much perpetually puts you at a greater risk for cop trouble than reverse-in parking ever will.

When you have a backup camera, it's much easier to safely predict what they'll do... not to mention that the ease of reversing in helps make up for any added risk.

Plus, around here at least, a fair number of people reverse into spots, so I suspect people are somewhat used to it.

And lastly, if you do what a lot of Corvette drivers do and park in BFE, there won't be much traffic around you anyways.

The OP's original question was "when you first arrive home" as in your home's garage.

But still, for those of us that will be leaving the dealership and going directly to the Dairy Queen, the other answers are indeed helpful.

A bonafide C7 question. No wonder the OT boys are making fun of the C7 threads.

Was too tired to post last night @ 10pm or the cuffs would have went on after only five.LOL

It's all good, it keeps the OT boys busy. They can get cranky when they have nothing to make fun of.
