Insurance Surprise

I asked the agent at NCM for a quote assuming a C7 valued at $72k with 100/300,500 ded, med payments and a limited milage of 3k per year. She was speculating that the cost would be appr $700 per year. I currently have a 2001 coupe with this coverage and it costs me $262 per year. For me this rate is making a C7 more a reality. .

you can thank the low, low insurance rates on the fact that these cars are generally babied. many sit in garages all week when traffic is on the highways, and owners drive their Yugo's. they don't get parked at malls, in bad areas, or driven in rain or snow in general.
2013 427 vert......no limitations n miles or anything else, 560/year.

I have to say, I am SHOCKED. I currently have a 2013 Infiniti FX37. I have Geico as my carrier and carry top of the line 100/300 coverage with very low $250 deductibles. When I quoted my new Vette, I expected my insurance to skyrocket. Afterall, I am going from an SUV (allbeit a performance one) to a TRUE sports car. Guess what... keeping the identical coverage, my insurance actually GOES DOWN $18 every 6 months. I am falling more and more in love with this vehicle.

My '99 FRC costs me around 430 a year to insure through USAA for Arizona. I'd have to drive a real POS to get lower than that.

One important element you're missing is the the theft rates that impact rates....Hondas get stolen much more often than Corvettes. I got a quote for the 427 Vert and it's about the same as my Bug Vert...which is 6 years old...interesting!

Read the fine print!
Here's an experience or 2 that has stuck with me.
I have had State Farm insurance on a car that had the stereo ripped off.
about 10 years later, I had another car Stereo ripped off, but this time I had Geico.
State Farm: Get us the receipts for the stuff you had in the car and we'll get it repaired. I did and ended up with a brand new system identical to the one that was stolen. $500 deductible was all i paid.
Geico: We are going to replace your aftermarket stereo with a stock one. Oh and guess what, we are going to replace it with "Like new" equipment. Um, that is "USED!" $500 Deductible, a lot of argument over the repairs, a lot of time passed, and a very unsatisfying experience.
In Conclusion, these were very similar experiences, similar coverage, however, very different insurance companies. Sometimes you do get what you pay for, and I'd stay away from Geico, it's bottom shelf insurance. Would love to hear other peoples real life experiences as well.

In the case of the stereo and attitude, one of the driving factors is time. Things changed dramatically over the years with insurance for many reasons. One of the biggest companies ot come out of it is LKQ, which is the insurer term for used parts. it means like kind and quality, or USED. This company and others make big bucks off of doing the work of stripping down cars and parting them out. They convinced insurers it was the right way to do business.
In some cases, such as vettes, LKQ often cannot provide parts of the same quality as the many cars not daily driven. I had ot fight with them over the use of lkqparts on my 95 vert. They sent out three different sets of parts that were cleary not the equivalent condition as my car.

Amica has been great. Priced better than gieco so at the very least shop around ..

I've been with State Farm for over thirty years with no issues.
Yearly insurance on my 458 spider: $1800. Not bad at all.
But YMMV. Having a good record, no DUI, no accidents, no tickets, at a certain age, in a certain Zip code, and multi-policies all help a lot. Believe it or not, even your credit score can effect what you pay.
I'm rather curious what the Vette will be. I haven't asked yet because it's just too far away to worry about.

Progressive must pay "Flo" 10 bucks an hour. That's why they've kept her for over a century.

I test drove the Infiniti FX35 and it blew me away........300 HP, 7 speed with paddle shifters, built on a sports car chassis and the best interior on the market. Almost as fun to drive as my Z06.
And if that is not enough the Infiniti FX50 has a 390 HP V8 that runs 13 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Now if that is not performance, what is?
