Corvette has had some great colors in the past but why in hell can't they have more options for personalization? Porsche has 14.
If they are going to bring back all these classic engine/model names, why not bring back some more classic colors like Lime Rock Green? LeMans Blue!! Atomic Orange!! Sure, they could charge more but why not?

I'm just jumping in the bitch wagon with you. Only I promise not to start one that we have had 20 of already. I also promise not to pat myself on the back in my threads.
It's a curiosity to me why, even with a new plant, they can't offer more colors.

Legit question. I don't see it as bitching , unlike big Dan each day.

I would love to see Lemans Blue, Atomic Orange, Navy Blue, Comp. Yellow, etc. A darker Ruby like the 40th Anniv or Monterey Red. Also please give us a nice Silver instead of Blade Silver. I don't think I've seen a Blade Silver car where nearly every panel was a different shade and the splotchy paint is horrible.

Hey CJJ, maybe you can order a pink one with purple interior for yourself seeing how the colors they offer aren't good enough for you.
OX you know better, GM has to leave future changes on the table just like adding features as the car evolves, same with colors.

Totally agree, these colors bring thousands more in resale in used cars so people do pay a premium for some of these colors like Lemans Blue and Atomic Orange.

Simple answer is paint shop capacity. Even with the upgrades the paint shop takes XX hours to paint all the panels for a complete car. They need to paint them ahead of the car entering trim and once painted they need to be stored waiting for their car to catch up with them. The paint shop occupies about two miles of track space for the sleds that they paint on as they travel through cleaning, prep, primer, paint and clear over the course of about 10 hours.

MY2014 will sell quickly, all they can make. Maybe they're saving some new/cool/special/different colors to boost sales in MYs when orders are expected to slip.

The colors on the line are handled in batches. They will paint about 10-11 cars of the same color so that they can keep the paint robots working while another set of robots are changed over. There are three sets of color robots and two clear robots. Usually one is set for tint coat colors and one is set for conventional clear.
They paint all the panels for a specific car on the same truck. There are two different paint lines running, one for swing panels and body panels and one for fascias (front and rear). Once painted the panels are put in to fixed or moving storage (moving storage goes up overhead and runs around the plant on conveyors which go to the various assembly stations and the fixed storage are racked and held until they are needed for assembly.
