ZR1-spec Corvette C7 could revive LT5 name for 700HP monster
From SlashGear:
Chevrolet could be planning a painfully potent version of the 2014 Corvette C7, it’s claimed, packing a supercharged version of the new car’s 6.2-liter engine and splashing out a heady 700 HP. The worked-over musclecar, tipped to be branded as the Corvette ZR1, though may not hit showrooms until at least early 2014 so as to avoid cutting into “base” C7 sales.

Well if this is true, that would put the C7 in the world class sports car ranks again. I would be concerned with the price and the volumn they would sell over a NA high performance version rated say in the 600 hp range.

Heaven forbid that that someone might speculate about the C7. I seem to remember someone speculating that the C7 would have a Nano-steel frame and would be narrower than the C6. Can't seem to recall his user name right now.

Nano steel in the frame, yes. Parts of it could have been involved.
Narrower, only because it looked that way. It still looks smaller to me.

Well, it is the latest news that GM has renewed the trademarks for LT5 and LTx engines. Whether this has anything to do with the future of Corvette, or just protecting it's past is yet to be seen. Of course, these could also be future crate Gen V engines as well. So who knows?
As for the source of this info? Slashgear appears to be website for gadget and techies, so not sure about it's Detroit connections. But it may be copying story from elswhere. Like here...note one of the cited sources.

I think this will happen but no way will it be that early..my guess would be in mid to late 15.

The last generation 638hp ZR1 still kicks the dog crap out of pretty much anything that is not: A) dedicated race car B) costs over $500,000.
700hp & all the other seventh generation upgrades add up to a package that should win any race. Street or Track.

700 HP OR 800 HP OR 900 HP, unless you are tracking the car regularly, all that amounts to is bragging rights at the local cruise in. AS already stated the ZR1 is capable of beating just about anything out there as it is now.

Question for the forum...how upset would you be if they only debuted a ZR1 and NO Z06 or middle ground for this generation?
GM stated their biggest problem with the ZR1 wasn't making big HP it was keeping the car on the ground and the C7Z51 has more down-force then the ZR1 so since they solved their biggest problem I think was can expect some big numbers with ZR1 or whatever they call it.

Does that mean they should not improve it?

Yay! $150,000 dollar C7 coming! Who's buying??
Sadly I see a 2011 Sonic Blue C6 ZR1 parked at a local Dodge/Jeep dealer......85k asking price, left outside everyday like it's a regular kinda car. Does GM really need a ZR1 in the lineup considering how a Z06 w/Z07 package is within an eyelash of it's performance.....down over 100hp.......I don't think so. The most important thing that's come from the C6 ZR1 development has been the suspension/brake improvements....as the Z06 shows, when paired to a "measly" 505hp it's a world beater.

What about a McLaren MP4-12C or Ferrari 458 or Lamborghini Gallardo or Aventador? All of those are faster 0-60 and quarter mile than the ZR1 and none costs anywhere close to half a mil.
I agree that the ZR1 costs less but in that company the ZR1 is the underdog.

As my brother suggested, they should not name it an LT5 unless it has DOHC like the original.
Otherwise they should call it something else. The LT5 is special and this would devalue it (if it does not share similar architecture).
