Indy 500 Pace Car 'Spotted' - auotweek
#2
What a great event to drop C7 HP - If this is the Indy pace car I have yet to see a C7 downtown Indy. Normally the pace cars are littered down here. I will feel very blessed to see one in person though! Hope it's true!

I have to agree with the others that doubt it will pace the 500 this year. It seems strange that it would as it is not in production as of yet, but one just never knows. It could also be testing to pace the Brickyard 400 in late Aug.

It would not be the first time a pre-production version paced the race.

2020 C8 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
That's pretty cool. I hope they don't screw it up with a bunch of cheap graphics.

I was wondering if the C7 would pace Indy. Usually the pace car has already been shown. This year it has been curiously no where to be seen. They have shown the Camaro Indy fest. cars but dont know if the Camaro will be the pace car or the C7.

The festival cars this year are the "Hot Wheels" Edition blue Camaro, which is what you see around town in Indy. For Indy 500 parade and festival duties (to carry and display drivers, etc.) the track needs convertibles. Corvette C7 coupes are very limited in availability right now, forget convertibles, and there is probably no way to get 50-60 C7 convertibles ready for festival/track duties. It makes sense to use the Camaro convertible for festival duties, and have them match the actual pace car. Here is a pic I took from getting the festival cars ready a couple weeks ago (I was lucky enough to help line them up for pictures and get them ready for delivery, etc.).
Given all that, the Indy 500 Pace Car has not officially been announced yet. The C7 Corvette in this "spy" picture has strobe lights, is the same color as the Camaro festival cars, and has a mysterious white tape along the bottom of the door and rocker panel (where the Chevrolet Bowtie and "Official Pace Car" decal is located on the Camaro festival cars). This is all a very common pattern for how things are done.
You can pretty much bet this will be the 2013 Indy 500 pace car!

I'm "Apache" a psycho dog
but give them time they have a history of over doing the graphics.
just let the beauty of the car speak for itself, obviously some graphics are necessary,
less is more when it comes to pace car graphics no need to over do it.
