What is the weight of a C7
Its seems like we have an idea of what the power is now...
But what is the weight? I thought the goal along was 3000lbs.
But the only thing I've read so far is it should weigh about as much as a current base C6 (around 3300-3400lbs). I'm hoping for a lower number than that...
Is there any new info on weight of the base C7?

The "goal" was to save weight wherever possible and evaluate every ounce of weight going into the car. This, reportedly they did - the results of their efforts have not yet been disclosed by GM.

It could be announced at next week's National Corvette Bash, along with, hopefully, exact HP and TQ amounts.

According to rumors it was going to be a mid-engine, AWD, DCT carbon fiber supercar with 625hp that was going to weigh less than 3000 pounds and cost $10,000 less than the current one.
Can't believe everything you hear.
Oh yeah...I almost forgot... it was going to have round taillights and a non-controversial rear end.

Variable valve timing may have added 35 pounds.
Cylinder de-activacation may have added 5.5 pounds to the engine and 15 pounds to the torque tube.
Crash standards and new interior may have added weight.
Overall, the C7 weight is probably about the same as the C6

My source says they could not get the weight down as much as the design team wanted. I doubt they will announce the weight figure anytime soon. Most of the production specs are still being finalized.

I agree that the weight is more than the team wanted. I think they were hoping for a significant weight reduction (over 100 lbs) and instead I think they'll end up with about the same weight as the current version.
I've been estimating 3200 - 3300 depending on options.

I suspect GM has known the specs for quite some time, they just do not want to share yet. The car is going to be getting built in the next few months. Maybe some slight tuning changes could be happening (engine control for a slight power or reliability boos, shock damping, etc.), but I believe the major components are already set in stone.

One interesting thing is that my 2003 350Z weighs in @ 3200 lbs. Would be pretty impressive if the C7, with almost 200 more HP and 10 years of weight "enhancing" safety features, can end up about the same.

I agree that the base/zero options coupe will likely be the lightest (hence why I almost always buy base model vehicles with a very few select options ) but I don't think a Z51 will weigh a full 100+ pounds more...40-60 pounds more is probable though, all else being equal.

I'm an Acura dealer and we have a new MDX being released in a month or so, the car has added DI yet they shaved 275 pounds off of the vehicle. Now I get it's a different animal but I find it hard to believe with modern materials available that GM isn't going to shave much if any weight off of the car. We all know what a huge factor weight is in a sports car, if it's not at least 2% less than the outdated outgoing C6 it's a fail IMO.

Put another way. If I weigh 265lbs and am 6' tall then I can lose 50 lbs relatively easily with effort. If, on the other hand, I weigh 165 lbs then getting a further 20 lb reduction is MUCH harder.

@ gthal, totally get your point and as I said in my post "I get it's a different animal". Here is my feeling, the C6 was developed probably in the late 90's or very early in this millennium, materials and components were not nearly as advanced as they are today. This same theory goes for the MDX, it was developed around 03-04 and introduced in late 2006. Point being the engineering that goes into a car now is far different therefore it should be paramount especially in a sports car that the weight be saved wherever possible. The safety aspects are equal across
Your analogy is spot on but I believe shaving 50-100 pounds off the car should not be out of reach.
