C7 vs jag f type
#42
F-type looks like a very good car, but not as good as a 911.
In terms of a comparison to the C7, for me its the Boxster/Cayman that are the closest competitors (due to similar prices).
F-type is too heavy and expensive. 911 is just too expensive.
I really want to see how the C7 compares to the Boxster and Cayman that are clearly the best small sports cars that currently exist. I loved their new look as well, but the C7 currently has my interest far more than a Cayman, mostly due to the excellent value and V8 sounds, and while there are aspects that bug me a little (all the vents for example) the look of the C7 is quite striking. Plus they GM is offering a green color.
Really having a hard time waiting for more info on the C7. Willpower.....fading...

C7 is Gangnam Style. F-Type is Call Me Maybe.
But seriously...
There are people who buy Corvettes, especially convertibles, for reasons other than their enthusiast magazine credentials. I think GM would like more of those buyers, and the F-Type looks like it will be significant competition. It doesn't grab attention the way a Corvette does, but it's very handsome, and a 340hp / 3521lb roadster will feel plenty quick -- you're hardly at risk of being embarassed by anyone's V6 sedan.
Not everybody wants a Corvette or a Porsche, and this will make sedan-based convertibles seem dull. I think Jaguar has picked its niche wisely and will do well with it.

Melting Slicks
A few years ago a coworker of mine had a 2003 S type and when the tranny started having trouble it wasn't a serviceable item and the fix was a complete replacement which cost nearly what the car was worth. My brother in law just dumped a 2009 supercharged XF that also had tranny issues. I think Jag has made some beautiful cars, but won't consider one unless they have a significant advance in reliability.

Jags are pretty but not in the same ballpark as real sportscars....
European vehicles make leasing the smart way to go....
Never own without an extended warranty......
Jmo and the f type can't even take out a 911 on the track.......
Nice effort and a double for sure.....but not a home run.

Some cars get stuck in stereotypes or past reputation. Based on my experience and knowing a few people who have newer (2009 and newer) Jaguars they seem to be more reliable than the German cars I have had. Sure Jaguars were notorious for breaking down but modern Jaguars seem to be fairly reliable. Plus they come with a great 5 year bumper-bumper warranty.
They're no Lexus in terms of reliability but neither is a Mercedes, Cadillac, Porsche or BMW. But imo they have more Cache than all of them.
But again some people cannot get past the past. For example, even if GM puts a Bentley quality interior in the Corvette some would still be stuck in the notion that Corvette's have lousy interiors.

Even with improved reliability I do not see the jaguar f type as focused a sports car as the new corvette.
The jaguar. F type while attractive is more focused towards the luxury aspect of this sports luxury segment...
My opinion is it will be am popular convertible and clearly eclipse the recent Mercedes SL as the car of choice in that segment...
Watch the video comparisons at the track between the jaguar f type and the 911....
It's insightful and fun.
Both cars are impressive

The c7 won't be available at 38.....Better to plan between 55 to 75
The jaguar f type jag starts at 69 then 82 and 92 I believe.
The 911 S runs around 100.
The Cayman S runs between 60 and 90 dependent on options.
I really see the new jaguar f type eating the Mercedes SL 550's lunch in the marketplace

Here's the V6S F-Type verses a 911 Cab, the F-Type gets spanked pretty handily. In fainess to the Jaguar, I don't understand why EVO didn't test the F-Type V6S against a regular Carrera Cab rather than the S model. Price wise, the V8 F-Type should be tested against the Carrera S, not V6S F-Type.
