Default GM Credit Card

I used to have a bank of america check card 1% cash back to my GM purchased back about 10 years ago. I used all my credit to get my 2006 GTO. The program got canceled so i am disappointed. I am thinking about getting a GM credit card because I may want to upgrade from a C6 Z06 to a C7 Z06 in couple years depended on whats GM does with it.

What bank has the best GM card with lowest interest rate? I have 800 credit score and a home owner and never missed a payment on any car payment (a Z06 loan) lol

Is it worth it to get cash on GM card or it is bunch of bull?

Can't tell you about the current offers, but I have a first generation GM credit card (got it in 1992) and so far (two Corvettes and a Cruze) have gotten $11,372 in dollar for dollar reductions on those three purchases.

I have the GM Flex Card. It was issued in 07 by HSBC and bought by Capital One last year. They give 3% cash towards any new GM purchase. They have also topped out my earnings to $3k in January so I could get the new Malibu for the wife. I'm going to use the card exclusively and try to get 10K towards a C7 next year or 2015.

I have the "new" GM Card, which is now from Capital One. My GM Card rebate on my 2012 C6 was $5300. My lifetime savings is over $9000.

I've had the GM Card since it was first issued. I had the gold card which gave 5% back and a max of $7500 way back when.

GM has converted it to the GM world card, and I was under the impression they cap for each model how much of your earnings you can use.

For example, for a Caddie CTS-V, It was like 1200 last time I checked, even though I have $3500 in earnings totaled on my card now.

Is my understanding correct?

Go to GM Card, click on the "Choose your card" graphic (lower left). It will step you through a few quick questions to pick the best card for you (for example, personal or business). You can also compare features on each card (earnings rate, earnings limits, redemption limits, etc.).

Maybe, maybe not. GM offered everyone on the old card to switch to the new card. Those that didn't are on the old program, now a World Card. I think they lowered you to the non-gold, which means you can use all your earning on any car. However, you earning are capped at $500/year, and you lose earnings after 7 years if they aren't used.

If you opted in to the new card, (and this was new, like 8 years ago, I'm talking), you have unlimited earnings per year, but are capped on what can be used on each vehicle, such as the 1200 on the CTS-V. my guess is since you have $3500 (which is the 500 per year, times the 7 years of earnings) you are still on the old program and can use all $3500 on any GM car.

If i were to get this now, it wouldn't be much help correct? It looks like some cars can only be discounted up to 500$? So I'm guessing the C7 will be limited significantly less than the current $3000 on the C6

There was a maximum allowance of $1000, no matter how much you had available. But in 2012 they raised the maximum allowance to $3000. Plus, they would also would have top-offs or bonuses. For the top-off, if you had say $1900 available, they would give you $3000. I had $2300 available, and they gave me a $3000 bonus. So, with other discounts, I saved more than $11,500.

I got the new GM card last fall, and the card sets the maximum value for each car. At 5% return, I'd have to charge $60,000 to max out the $3000 rebate on a '13 Corvette. That would take me a couple of years, unless I use it for some big event at work.
No one knows what the level will be on the '14, but I'm hoping they keep it at $3000.

We got our GM card in about 1998, used $1500 to buy our 2001 'vette, then used $2500 to buy our 2006 'vette, then used $1500 to buy our 2009 'vette. Well, I think there was a special deal going in 2009 and we got $2000 off instead of the $1500.

$500/yr credit, no limit on how much can be used on one purchase except the 7 year ($3,500) cutoff.

We currently have about $1900 earnings that will be up to about $3000 in time for a 2015 C7, if we decide to do that. I still have mixed feeling about the car but no rush to decide.

It depends on which GM card you have.
The letters they send me have always said there is no max (except the 7yrs/$3500 limit) which can be used on a purchase.

Other people may have different cards, some build the total points more quickly but limit how much you can redeem on any particular car.

Looks like you can earn 5% back and use up to $3000 toward the purchase of a 2013 corvette.

I have the World Card that was converted from the old Gold Card. There is no limit on the earnings you can apply other than $3500. That card is no longer available so don't terminate it as you can't get a better deal. Last time I used it was in 2008 when I used $2900 to buy a new Malibu.

Thanks Bill, I double checked and yes I do have the world card. I'm either going to get a CTS-V or C7, so looks like I can get a nice discount with my earnings.
