So If The C7 Price Comes In At $72,000 For The Base Stingray Will You Still Buy It?

Why are we going round and round about pricing when no one actually knows, even GM probably doesn't have the prices locked? All we are doing is messing with each others mind.

Rumors rumors rumors but yes that price has surfaced more than once now. Is it possible GM will consider the Stingray as the base car at the C6 Grand Sport price level now? Could be. How likely would you still consider to buy the Stingray at that lofty price? This would not be a fully optioned car lets say base is $68K + $900 shipping and a few options to total $72K. Base trim level.

why start a thread - way after it's been reported that GM themselves said the base would be "below $60k"
I am one of them - that was told directly by one of the GM people at the NAIAS. And when I looked surprised (thinking it was still too high $$$ for a base model)... the guy followed up saying "well below $60k".
What's next; a thread where someone asks if the C7 is going to be mid-engine ???

Don't kid yourself. GM knows exactly what this car should cost to make up whatever R&D costs that went into it + profit margins. What they are gauging is how the public is receiving the car and will use this to establish their MSRP. When the C6 Z06 was first introduced, they were cautious about the pricing and it surprised everyone when the base came in at $60K....did not take long after that for GM to realize they were leaving alot of money on the table and jacked up the price into the $70K+. They will not make the same mistake with this one. It will come in higher than most expect and are willing to dish out.

Guesswork has been that there will be a Z51 option. If that is true and the base is $72,000, it could be an $85,000 car with a few options including the Z51. That seems over priced for a 450HP Vette. Anyway, I plan to buy one.

OP, gimme a sip of whatever's in that cup you got.
Let me just point out the most obvious thing that I don't think anyone else has pointed out -- you say that they're going to price this in line with the current GS, but the GS starts at ~$56K. Not $68K. Even when they get one pretty well equipped, NO one is driving out with a Grand Sport for $68K. Seriously... WTF, brobot.
"Guesswork"? We know for a fact that there will be a Z51 option. It's not a guess. It is straight from the horse's mouth. It's one of the few things we already know 100% for sure.
So you would buy one whether it cost you $85K or $65K?

2. Even if that price is accurate (and it's undoubtedly still not finalized, just an estimate), that's NOT the base price... That's the estimated MSRP of a well optioned model. Exactly how many options, we don't know. It could be a fully loaded convertible, for all we know.

Well - at that price - hell no, I'd put a few $1000 into my C6 for a supercharger and Caravaggio seats, and wait for a good deal on a used C7 a few years down the road.
BUT - I don't think the C7 base price will be anywhere near that amount.

People calm down. The base (1LT no options) will be in the low 50's. Everyone freaks out when they hear Corvette for 70k. Well news flash guys MSRP for a C6 GS 4LT with Mag and Auto is $71,550 (I just built one on Chevy's web site). I bet the C7 with Z51, Mag etc will be at this same MSRP. Chevy wont jack up MSRP on the C7, they just wont offer rebates or low interest options for the first year or so. So GM will make more money with out rasing MSRP by not offering rebates. Of course dealers will not discount for the first six months or so. Which means that C6 that MSRP's for 71k sells for about 55k right now. The C7 that will MSRP for 71k will sell for 71k.

The base will not be $72K, but if it was I would still buy it!!
Still the most car you can buy for that price in the new car market today.
