Last C6 rolls out of factory...WHAT???
I'm a bit confused...so were they building C6 and C7 at the same time just until about now?

The few C7's built to-date are all one-offs. The line hasd been churning out C6s.

The last C6 rolled off the production line today which was a collector car as it was put. It marked the last production C6 to be manufactured. Now they will tear down the C6 production line and ready it for the next model.

The Corvette mules and pre-production cars are built on a special production line. The normal line continues to produce the current generation of cars. Now that the last C6 is gone, they'll shut the line down and re-tool for the C7...usually takes a month or two to get it done. When you have major changes like from C4-C5 and C6-C7 the time needed for re-tooling can go up significantly.
Then they'll do a test run of cars...most of which get designated as "media vehicles" for them to loan out the the different magazines to flog like a rented mule. Once the Quality Control people give them (Production) the green light they start the production run.
It's the way they've done it for decades...

""The last C6 rolls off the line at 8:04 a.m. and I'll have people in here at 8:30 a.m. to start tearing down and putting in new tools," Tatman said.
The task will require that 120 workers take just four weeks to turn the Bowling Green plant around, completing a job that usually takes months to accomplish. All employees are slated to return to work on March 25, where they will learn the entirely new process required to build the Stingray."
Sounds like they're putting a rush job on the retooling operations. Thankfullly

Normally this whole thing wouldn't be a big deal, but the C6 had such a long run that it's actually a pretty surreal ordeal to hear the last C6 was built and rolled off the factory assembly line.

Well the C1 was almost stopped in 1955 when Ford out sold GM with there T. Bird and the 1967 was to be the C3 but GM could not get the design correct so they built the 67 as a C2 and then built the 68 as a C3. Look at the 83 Corvette or lack of. They only made a few and had to stop production because they could not figure out how to fix problems they were having, it was to be the first C4. That is why the only 83 Corvette still together is in the NCM but on loan from GM not owned by the NCM. The Corvette has had a lot of ups and downs over the years. I think that GM should put there design people into a room and tell them to come out with a Corvette that looks or brings back the C2 look. Like Ford did with the Mustang and Chrysler did with the Challanger. The retro look. I think that GM would not be able to make enough to supply the demand. Just think of it, a C2 Corvette body style like the 63 SWC with high tech suspension and a new design motor with 500+ hp and the comfort of the new Corvettes. What a combonation. With inflaction, that is my $0.05 worth.

No... They have not begun C7 production yet and won't for a few months. The C7's we are currently seeing are prototypes and mules.
