Default A new possible C7 front bumper upgrade ?

I've notice on all the front bumpers on the C7 test cars that the chrome strip in the lower front bumper has a curious design at the two ends of the chrome strip.

Most people probly have never even noticed it. In the area of the black plastic that the chrome strip sits in, that area gets wider on both ends as if the chrome could be shorter on another model and have a small LED light strip inserted on both ends. I first noticed it a while back and thought that could be a future mod that could be done by taking some of the chrome off the ends and inserting two small LED light strips. One on each end.

Then i got to thinking that since nothing on the car is done by accident it must have a purpose to look like that. So maybe there will be an upgraded future model (Z06/ZR1) that could have some extra details on the front bumper? Or maybe use an LED light strip for fog lights.

It might also make an interesting after market mod.

an LED strip across the front might actually complement the headlights that I think have a great look, like eyes when lit up. The LED would give it a mouth

I think what you are seeing is an optical illusion caused by the reflection on the chrome and the fact that it tapers back away from the front of the car.

Here are a few pictures. I am not seeing what you are suggesting.

Edit: I went and looked at a bunch of C7 front photos. On some of them, I see what you are talking about. If that chrome strip does in fact flare out towards the ends, I'd speculate that is more of a design feature as opposed to a sport for a future add on or upgrade.

Chrome on any new Corvette looks odd and out of place.

It's on those also...

It may be nothing but a desgin cue. But i was just thinking that with this car seems like everything has a reason to look like it does. It just had me thinking that with the black plastic angled back to the rear like that it could be to make room for a future upgrade on the bumper in a year or two. It would be easier for them to just add a small light strip instead of designing an entire new bumper with fog lights... Just make a shorter chrome strip and two LED strips. They can use the same bumer.

Either way i kinda like the idea of two small light strips down there.

That's clearance for mounting clips for the self-driving scanner option we'll get next year, for those who want to take a shadowy flight into the world of a man who does not exist.

I like it, pays homage to the early c1 Vettes without being too retro.

So, you are saying the new C7 will become the 4th generation K.I.T.T.?

1st gen - 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am

2nd gen - Dodge Stealth modded to look similar to the Pontiac Banshee IV concept car

3rd gen - Ford Shelby GT 500 KR Mustang

Well, at least they would be bringing it back into the GM fold…!

As long as we're inspecting/critiquing the grill...has anyone else noticed that, of the twelve segments in the grill, only the center four segments (two top & two bottom) are actually open mesh while all the rest are closed off?

Yep i see that. Maybe thats so they can control how much air gets in the engine/radiator area.

The chrome bumper strip on the red show car has the wide ends also.

I agree! First thing that comes off, IF I buy a C7 is that ugly chrome strip, no matter the cost or modding needed.

I had noticed that and it made me wonder about all the cars in states requiring front license plates. We've seen the mount, it appears to completely cover the open segments of the grill. Apparently the C7 gets by just fine as a bottom breather only (Tadge did mention that for track events the front plate should be removed).

Yep, very easy to fix. Just cover with some carbon vinyl or a black one inch stripe and cut off the excess with a blade.
