2014 ZR-1 Corvette Could Have Over 700 HP
Agent009 submitted on 2/19/2013 Official Bell & Ross Timestamp: 12:20:21 PM
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray hasn’t even hit dealerships yet, but the rumor mill is already churning on possible powerplants for the next Z06 and ZR1 high-performance models.
While most Corvette enthusiasts are more interested in the naturally aspirated Z06′s output, word is the Z06′s performance won’t be determined until the supercharged ZR1 is finalized. It is believed that the next-generation ZR1 will feature an engine that’s evolved from the LT1 V8 found in the base model C7 and could top 700 hp.

I am a little skeptical. As far as we know there wasn't going to be a large range of models this generation. So who are these autospies and where are they getting their information?
Not trying to call anyone out, just want to know their reliability.

This is just another rumor started the other day by Motor Trend. Same as the one they have going on a cheaper entry level 2015 Corvette. I don't trust much that comes out of MT.

Yet another rumor...
Yet another unsubstantiated rumor...from HyperCar Monthly...
Corvette to reach near-1000 HP and 60+ MPG.
Thu, Feb 21 2013
DETROIT – When Tadge Juechter was brought in for the first post-bankruptcy meetings with the Treasury Department, he was, frankly, terrified. His terror was understandable as the Corvette program he was in charge of was historically scarred by past Corvette generation's that were weakened to the core by governmental regulations and financial mismanagement. How could the Treasury Department of an environmentally active president possibly have good news for him about his beloved Corvette?
Amazingly, he left the meeting a changed man when Treasury Department officials friendly to the Corvette let him know that his dream plan for producing the ultimate Corvette with almost 1000 hp and capable of gaining over 60 mpg was finally given approval. Why? They wanted him to prove a point, that American exceptionalism is alive and well. They wanted him to prove that even the most spirited American icon can have amazing power while still having amazing efficiency.
While details are tightly guarded, GM's uber-Vette is in development even as we speak and it is going to turn the hypercar world upside down. As big as the newly revealed C7 Corvette Stingray with it's brand new GenV LT1 engine has been at the Detroit and Chicago auto shows, it's really just the opening salvo in GM's plan to take on even the hypercars of the global market.
Designated "BlueOx", this mid-engine, AWD wonder car is said to reach Buggati Veyron levels of acceleration with a far simpler, but unique new combination of a hardened, twin-turbo-charged GenV block with electric motors at each wheel.

Why is it so hard to believe 700hp? Thats only 60 more than they have now!

The Z06 & ZR1 are the Corvette models that compete with the other MFG's heavy hitters. I beleive GM woud lose all the ground they made with the intro of those models. Non Corvette fans might not like the car but they do respect the power per $ they offer. The new car is a nice starting point but that is it, GM needs to step up and keep the MO going. JMHO
