Default GM working on 2015 Low Cost Corvettte < 400 HP according to MotorTrend

April issue (page 13) states

a version of the 5.3 liter aluminum same as new GM trucks
comes only as a hardtop
changes to the front fascia, fender and diffuser to differentiate it from the Stingray.
badged as Corvette Coupe.

I don't know how much truth there is to it.

Interesting. So, the 327 and the "coupe" (hardtop?) could be coming back.............

With Motor Trend there's about a 60/40 chance they get it right.......

Yesterday MT was claiming that GM was working on a 600 hp Z06 and 700 hp ZR1, now they are saying this. What is with this low cost Corvette. Motor Trend I really think will do anything to sell magazines. In the 60 years that Corvette has been produced they have never talked about a low cost Corvette. Well I miss spoke. The 1999 FRC was to be a lower cost entry level, but we all know that did not work out so well.

They are still saying a Z06 and ZR1 are in the works.

It looks as if the line up will eventually be

Corvette Coupe
Corvette Stingray
Z06
ZR1

Let us not forget that this is the SAME Motor Trend that published a Jet Stream Blue photoshopped C6 and said it was the C7....4 months before the reveal!!!!!! We had Keeks/Jalopnik/etc and this is what MT gave us on September 19, 2012

I'll pass if it's true. I don't want a diluted Corvette. The base C7 is a great starting point imo and don't want another lower model bringing it down.

A lower cost entry level Corvette could be a welcome addition, and enhance sales. However, if it offers a $400 price savings as the FRC offered in 1999 over the regular coupe, it will fail as much as the '99 and '00 model did.

You know, in the April issue of Motor Trend exactly 1 year ago, they reported that the 2014 Corvette would have a 3.6 ltr V6 engine option at it's debut. So they must be a credible resource . . .

i hate hate hate this idea....the corvette is already too mainstream...we don't need it becoming GM's 2 door mustang. If you cant afford a Corvette...buy a Camaro.

+1. I've always felt like it should be the one car that GM isn't concerned much about high volume and max profit and should be more concerned about keeping its heritage rich and not as available to the public. I mean, I love the fact that I can afford mine and a used vette is affordable, but I also feel that GM does a pretty good job of diluting the market with lower cost options. Idk, maybe thats just me.

And a back seat. Maybe even a four door or station wagon. They have said they want to please everyone.

I honestly DON'T like the idea of a full bodied Corvette with a smaller engine. If they want to go that way they should build a whole different, smaller, Solstice-like, Miata-killer that is made far better than the Solstice was. They could go hog wild with something like that.

They started that effort one way, but the C5 was selling so well that they botched it trying to capitalize on the hot market at the time.

Well they going to have to do something to drag in the younger market.
The ones that nail the asian sport model. But then you talking 30K cars.
Seems like that would make the corvette compete with the mustang and
fiat chargers.

If they work something for the 40K plus market ????? They could built a
coupe with the round taillights kit. Leave out the etch a sketch screen.
