Default C5 prototype design used on C7

Came across this and had to post it....
Rejected rendering of a C5 prototype design 20 years old just happens to look "exactly" like a C7. Thoughts anyone?

Thats the thing about Prototypes - sometimes they're to modern for the times they represent..

While I wouldn't call that "exactly like the C7" I would say that there is the influence there without a doubt. There are literally hundreds of Corvette studio designs that get drawn, and reviewed and scrapped over the years. You have to believe that the if the individual designer involved in any of those particular designs gets a chance to submit a design for review and that was a particular feature that they liked in their design (whether in their conscious mind or subconscious mind) that it will resurface in some form or another at a later time.

Nice find! Some definite styling inspirations. The tail lights, the centered exhaust pipes, the rear quarter window and rear hatch are all represented.

A little more round than the sharper edges on the C7, but definitely some styling nods.

The vent behind the front wheel looks similar also.

How funny is that? This maybe is where they got the Camaro tail lamp shape from in the first place.

If you look at the prototype from the rear fenders forward, it almost looks like a C4. I would love to see the front end and interior of this prototype to see if there are any other styling similarities.

Lots of Ferrari F12 (rear window & roof curvature). F12 was unveiled Feb 2012. So Chev design didn't do a knock-off after all, not on Ferrari at least.

So this picture proves the Camaro has Corvette tail lights. Then that would mean the C7 has Corvette tail lights. Right?

I think this forum group is great. I am not being sarcastic here. This group could find comparison to any car made in the last twenty years and the C7. That is not easy.

Well, using that logic and assuming ya think the C7 has Corvette tail lights in the first place then yes.

This also proves that many of today's supercar designs were based off of Corvette rendering's 20+ years old, this should be a sticky!

Hmmm, well the two hatches certainly have similarities. The tail lights head in kinda the same direction...

Kinda the same its like they just circumcised the C7, That way it doesn't have that un-cut Euro look!

From the book All Corvettes Red. Best thing to do is get a hold of John Cafaro. Even better ask Tadge Juechter, he was a systems engineer back with he C5.
