GM CEO says HP number on Jay Lenos Garage
My ipad will not let me copy and paste the link but if you google "corvette C7 and jay leno" there will be a video. This video has them taling the C7 in red to Jay Lenos Garage to film a segment and when Ed Wellburn is walking around the car with Jay he says " this car will have 450hp". He doesnt say " at least" or " around" or "minimum" he flat out admits only 450 hp. Pathetic.

The last I heard the C7 HP numbers were not available. I think the 450 / 450 is simply an at least set of numbers. For sure, GM has a good basis for giving out these numbers. Going back a few years, if I remember correctly, when the C6 ZR1 was to come out didnt Autoweek say 600HP and the final HP numbers after all the testing was 638. So, I am just sitting back and waiting for all the testing and certification to come in with the final numbers ...

1) When the C5 was introduced, it had 20hp over the LT4, and some reports stated that it wasn't even that much.
2) The C5 had pretty much the same base powerplant ratings for eight model years (small bump on '01). C6? Not so much...
3) The C6 had 50 more hp than the outgoing base C5 engine when it was introduced. Using those numbers, the C7 DID get a 50hp bump. but wait, there's more!
4) The LS2 was available for three model years (05-07), when the LS3 was introduced with 30 more horsepower. That suddenly becomes the new benchmark? If that power bump hadn't happened, I doubt that we'd be having this discussion.
5) One last thing: Just be glad that the base-model power rating didn't drop or stay flat. I don't think we will be so lucky next time.

I don't understand what all this belly-aching over "only" 450hp is for.

People get so hung up on the number but what really matters is how that power is put to use and taken advantage of. All the power in the world is meaningless if you can't put it to the ground. There will be cars with 100 more HP on the streets that won't accelerate like the Corvette.
An old saying comes to mind. It's not what you got but instead, how you use it.

Jay also said 6 speed.... You can't take everything in this video as "fact." The truth is, we don't know the numbers yet, but they are likely to be more then 450. I firmly believe they will be more then 450. Just have to wait and see

They're probably waiting until 80% or more of the remaining Z06's on the lots are sold until they announce that the C7 will have 475+ horsepower. They're probably thinking they remaining Z06's wont move if the horsepower of the C7 is too close and the cost is $15,000 less...and they'd be right.

IMO, if the car comes out with "only" 450 hp it will sell just fine. There's enough pent up demand for a new vette.
I do agree with others that have opined that if were to come out with hp approaching 500hp it would be a big boost to its prospects, tho; you'd have Z-06 guys looking at it now as opposed to waiting for a higher perf model.

Gonzo, you may think 450 is great or not as you are entitled. However, I am also entitled to my opinion and I think 450 would be pathetic and a huge letdown

Ed Welburn isn't the CEO of GM. Mr. Welburn is the Global V.P. of Design. He is basically the head of interior and exterior styling efforts. He doesn't really have a lot to do with the mechanical features of the car, only with approving integration of them within the design goals. Plan on the likelihood that he simply mis-spoke and should have said, estimated.
