Default Black wheel finish issue

I have a 3 month old (850mi) grand sport and noticed that the finish on the black wheels is coming off or fading on at least one wheel. It is mostly evident in the corners where the spokes meets the rim, but seems to be spreading. It feels as if the coating is coming off as it is a bit rough to the touch where it is discolored. I doubt it could be chemical damage as I use the same car wash soap on the wheels as I do on the body of the car. Also, I only dry and wipe with a microfiber cloth. Any one else experiencing this? If so, is there some thing that can be done to correct this? Would the BTB warranty cover this?

Yes, BTB will cover it, but looks like a chemical reaction to a spill of some sort. Not saying you did it, just prepping you for what your service advisor will try to claim. Do you have a dealership that knows you well? Otherwise, i'm thinking you'll get the runaround

Unfortunately, the dealer nearest me is not great. I am currently in the midst of the peeling fascia paint issue and had to get GM involved. The dealer repainted the entire front fascia and I had it returned with paint buckling on both sides, rather than only on one as when it went in for the repair. I had to give the dealer all the TSB information and let them know it is an adhesion issue, but that takes us to another thread. Thanks for your reply.

Does not give me confidence in the durability. Never saw this on any other car I’ve owned. I will check the other 3 wheels more closely when I have a chance. If it’s just one, then maybe it’s a fluke or defect.

You need to find a new dealer, even if it means driving way out of your way. I got my car in late 16. Before I had 1,000 miles on it, I took off the facia, regapped, then reinstalled to avoid any potential paint issues. Obviously your dealer has no standards when it comes to quality of their work. Run the other way. It is likely that some careless dummy dripped or splashed some sort of a chemical on that wheel by accident while it was sitting in the shop, waiting for the facia. What I see on that rim (at least I think I see based on the shadows in your pic) looks to me like “paint reducer” may have splashed on it. Someone maybe dropped the bottle or kicked an almost empty bottle across the floor. Best of luck. All speculation unfortunately as you have no proof. The dealer network is sadly the biggest letdown of owning a vette.

It won't matter if covered by warranty or not, IF the wheels are STILL on back-order... but, good luck, anyway.

I am currently using Nissani Bros in Culver City, CA as it is closest. Can any one give me feedback on Rydell in Northridge?

Yes, it should be covered under your warranty unless you did something to cause the damage, but as said, it seems the wheels are on backorder so it may be a long wait.

Rydell sounds like a better choice. Make an appointment with the service manager

I will try Rydell for the wheel issue and moving forward. I started the fascia paint issue with Nissani and now have to stick with them for that. GM is sending their reps to make sure the correct remedy is used.

Some dealers do have wheel refinishing companies hey deal with, that might be an option to get them fixed faster.

I will check with dealer. Given it is a grand sport, I hope I will not have larger problems with the wheels at some point.

Remove all 4 wheels and have them powder coated, much more durability. paint on OEM wheels sucks.

I am considering another set of wheels for the street. I will probably go forged..our roads stink here . I will just save the OEM for my Cup 2 tires on track day

I had to do mine with 1K on the clock. The brake dust is the killer.

One thing I don't understand is why GM would cover a paint issue on a wheel, but not cover bent or cracked wheels.

What does powder coating run? Also, it would be a challenge for me to find a place that wouldn’t screw it up. It seems around Los Angeles there are 2 out of 3 places that claim to be expert at the process, but then damage the wheels in the process. If anyone has a referral for me, it would be appreciated.

Consider this...at least it's not cracked or bent...at least it is still functional..
