Why do you see only some (although very small minority) Corvette owners trashing their cars with tacky mods? I'm not mocking anyone just wondering?

I mean it takes a certain type of affluence to buy these cars just like other higher end vehicles but you don't see those people putting on pep-Boys like accessories on their cars?

Not really. There are a lot of early C6's out there that does not require a 6 figure salary to purchase. Actually a new C6 does not even require that. I will agree that the real tacky Corvette are few and far between although there are some members that believe that if it is not like the factory made it it is tacky. Sure there are a lot of members that mood their cars, but the majority are very tastefully done.

Thanks. But that's my point. To some people, polished CCW wheels, LED tail lights and a Caravaggio spoiler are "tacky" because they are not OEM. I have met these "purists" and to them OEM is the ONLY way to roll.

...and then there is the Plasti-dip crowd.

One of mine is modded for car shows, I have at least 2 Vettes at a time, some more. Some are left stock and are classed as antique, not custom. For the stock lovers here why do you even whine about what someone else does with THEIR car. I know it's a popular pasttime to sqawk about what someone else does. BUT IN THE END you know most of us just don't really care what you think.

I never ask for approval and never will so I will never be disappointed in other opinions. However, my wife likes to argue that point...

Good. Way too many folks come to CF and ask "what do you think?" and they really aren't ready for the answers they get!

For me, the first "mod" will be to remove the "stingray" badges. I might find someplace else inside the car to put 'em, but I don't like the placement - they just look like an afterthought.
You may find holes in the fender to accommodate European turn signal fender lights as in the Z06. I found that out when I took mine off my 07 Z.

If there isn't an option to get all-season tires from the factory, I'll need to switch.

GM dealers will sell body colors panels to replace all the black vents....

At first I too thought there was too much black vents etc...but after awhile I started to see what the designers were doing and began to appreciate the factory offering.

I tend not to like aftermarket changes to the clean design GM offers.

If I were going to change anything I really thought the vents on the rear quarter panels were a bit too much but knowing the dealerships will offer painted vents as a GM option I felt I could stay with the black vents all over and change them later on if I felt the need.

The aftermarket manufacturers are working feverishly, mouths watering in anticipation of "chroming" every conceivable piece, part, vent, tip, cover, molding, rocker panel, engine cover, louvers, eyebrows.....

Not to mention the future buyers of all this ..............

I'm not that guy.

Most of the tacky stuff you see is in south FL and CA.

If some guy who is proud of his ride posts a picture of his Corvette loaded up with a bunch of tacky mods, just like in real-life social situations, I look, but don't comment. However, if the same guy posts a picture of his Corvette with a bunch of tacky mods and asks "What do you think?", he better be prepared to hear what people think!

I see it like this...it's your car, your money. What you do with it is your business and not mine...if I like it, I'll let you know, if I don't I won't.

...and I would expect nothing but the same in return.

The pathetic part is that they think putting cheap plastic around your taillights, license plate, most stripes, cheap plastic add-ons, fuzzy dice, etc. etc. look good or cool somehow. You don't see these tacky $hit on other high high brand vehicles. It tarnishes the brand as a whole!!!

I see less with each new generation but they are still there. Hopefully with the C7 they will go away. GM should pay them to go to another brand lol.

You know of course that Z51 logos will be a hot item even for those without Z51.

The hot mod isn't going to be adding chrome louvers, it's going to be chroming the "louvers" that are already there, i.e. the factory taillight surround. Also chroming the other vents, though we might see these come in phases as people have to save up for the big hood vent.

It's a good bet some of these will get a carbon fiber look instead.

So you'll be mounting a diminished-value lawsuit against Corvette owners with mods that harm the market perception of the Corvette brand? While you're at it, why not target everyone who isn't model-pretty and youthful? Good luck.

Because they make more money not doing so. They also provide more car for less money to buyers as a whole by not doing so. Your desire for cheap speed is partially funded by the majority's desire for a well-rounded car.
