Also the flares on the '96 Grand Sport coupes - not real radical, but still a little different look.

Nope, I don't have a mustang. But the GS is kinda like a V6 mustang posing as a GT mustang.
Nice that you are able to afford the Z06 if you wanted one. Hopefully you got a nice set of loyds floor mats. I could care less what you can afford or can't afford.
My personal opinion, GM cheapened the Z06 by producing the GS. Now with the C5 the FRC came before the Z06. So if GM produced the GS for a few years then tossed in the 7.0L and discontinued the sale of the GS I could see the progression like they had with the C5 from FRC to Z06.
If GM does produce a wide body, it hopefully has a little bit more go and a bit more cornering ability then the base C7. Possibly a GM 'hot' cam and a Z51 suspension.

I had the extremely rare opportunity (one of the first "outsiders") to see the first C6 that was still undergoing clay back in 2001 and it was done in the Z06 version with the wide flares and double split spoke wheels right from the get go! Wonder if they used the same approach with the C7?

I agree, to pay $7K for a body kit and brakes it kinda a rice move! Atleast they could have done a cam and upped the power by 20-30hp for the $7K!

If they do a widebody, its going to be more costly to do than the C6 version. You'd have to change the fenders of course, but on the C7 you would also have to change the rear bumper and the rocker panel since each of those panels form part of the rear wheel wells.
It would certain make conversion of a 'regular' C7 into whatever wide body version does emerge (if any).
