The C5Z certainly had a very defining shape
C4 GS had a flared rear
C4 ZR1 had an extremely widened rear
If anything GM should learn from history. Those who paid big money for ZR1's in the 90's weren't too happy you couldn't tell their car from the 32k base car.
You gotta have something visual that sets the badder cars apart. Something that made me not too much of a fan of the GrandSport. Z06/ZR1 guys paid for that body...to hand it to the base car guys is a bit of a dick move...but hey...it sold a lot of cars. Shows that a large portion of the buying/old boy crowd is more about show than go....
GS's will make for good build cars later though...I'll give them that. Wouldn't be surprised if I grab one one day.

I thought that CAD rendering that Keeks came up with of the rear end of C7 showed wheels that were close to ZR1 wheels and flared fenders and the rear fascia also flared into the fenders. I have to believe this will be close. If they are going to do it, I would hope they do it big to keep those friggin wanna be copiers away by making it cost prohibitive to convert to a Z look alike. I have seen way too many copies in the C6 generation.

How boring would it have been for the C6 ZR1/ZO6 to look just as tame as a base C6? Why would someone pay almost $30k more for a ZO6 or $100k plus for a ZR1 if it looks exactly like the $50k base car?

I'll admit times are changing, everything is going to more redefined lines and edges. Me personally I like the C7. I don't think I'll get rid of my C6z for one. I keep reminding myself that corvette for the longest didn't have stationary headlights again or if ever (not sure) until the C6. I'm sure their was a outburst from older gen that could not stand that now they prob own one. I think the same thing will happen with those of us with the rear end on the C7. However, If they do come out with a Zversion of c7 it will have to be wider than my c6z for me to purchase. I would also like a very slighty different front and rear end to separate from base model and this style will ONLY be offered in the high perf models. I would also like GM to build a fully forged 6.9L (I dunno why just sounds good) that sports a twin/roots style supercharger pushing 775hp and that my friends is something I will buy!! Lol

When looking under the grey car in the Detroit show it was clear that there was another 2 inches of wheel well on the inside to put a wider tire in to.
RE: not wanting to pay extra for a ZR1 because it looks to similar to the base car, this is one of the great things about it. Stealth!

If it's going to happen, it will happen after the C7 Z06 comes out, just like the C6.
It's simply deduction that if the wide body is borrowed from the Z06, then one must wait for that to happen first. It will not happen before that.
GM made a great move by offering the C6 GS. They listened to the market and gave everyone what they wanted. They know what people want now and I'm sure they will do the same with the C7. It's too easy not to do it.
We're probably looking at the C7 GS 4 - 5 years down the road so it won't be any time soon.
I just hope no one comes out with a horrible attempt to create a wide body before GM does. Rarely do the proportions or fit and finish look good.
Patience...

I'm not buying this argument that there won't be a wider C7 simply because they want to sell overseas, and wide is not allowed there. Porsche has been selling wide bodied 911's forever. Mercedes, Ferrari and Lamborghini all sell cars wider than the C6Z's.
Ferrari 599 = 77.2" wide
Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series = 77.2" wide
Corvette ZR1 = 75.9" wide
Porsche 911 GT2 = 73.0" wide
... There are no doubt many others as well that are wider than the Corvette wide bodies. GM has a flared fender C7 in the works for sure. We've already seen the evidence in the CAD photo that clearly shows a flared fender and matching flared bumper, so what's to question???
