That's what you get when you try to have a conversation with someone as old as joe. Haven't you seen enough of his posts by now? He knows everything!!!

Your credibility here was already shot...and now you've thrown it completely off the charts.
No offense.
There is no such thing as a Porsche 911 Carrera4 turbo nor does Porsche put a 7-speed auto transmission in the 911 Carrera4 or 911 Turbo. You might want to check the price of those particular cars as well as their lap times...Corvettes at ½ the price are kicking their butts on track. And like your POS BMW Z3.2, the Porsche 911 still uses the el cheapo, antiquated, econobox, McPherson struts in the front suspension. It defies all logic why anybody with any sense would pay so much for so little.
Do you not ever get tired of making these embarrassing posts? I must admit, it's amazing how much stupidity was packed into this one...if that's what you're going for, you should be proud.

Some folks are such 'experts' that they never actually create a useful thread, just want to whine on everyone else's threads.

Does anyone know exactly how much MPG the 8 speed would improve over the 6?
I hope they refine the paddle shift, they need to be huuuuuge behind the wheel like in a Lambo haha

It is interesting to see whether they give automatic car to reviewers or not. I think it would be foolish to not to because they really don't have anything to lose as expectations are not high.

You do realize that GM had it "right" long before BMW did. z3s with 1:1. 5 speeds turned 3500-4000 rpms at 80 mph while Corvettes were at 1800 or so. In fact one of the worst cars to take on a trip in is a BMW of that era because of their cruising rpms. But the mags still loved them, even with their inadequacies.

I agree. You can't brag about the NEW 7 speed manual and 2 minutes later say there's an "marketing arms war" in regards to the number of ratios. That said, I think the A6 is plenty for an engine with the LT1's torque curve.
I do wish he would just say what we all KNOW, that the GM 8 speed auto isn't ready yet.
In the end, I will order a manual (like always), but the automotive press sure didn't do him any favors with the Aisin 8 speed auto rumor, since almost 3/4ths of Corvettes are ordered with automatics.

dont know about auto but the MT 6sp in Z06 the 5th and 6th slows it down abit ..you wont feel it but if you racing to high speed for example an SLR you will notice the SLR may start to gain on you slowly once you are in 5th.. so if we had 7 gears 5th and 6th will be in better use
So the ratios have a lot to do with it.

This old Top Gear video should remind us of the main reason a 8 sp. trans is unnecessary in a Corvette. Light weight, powerful car with a massively wide torque band that almost all other sports cars do not have. Cut through Clarkson's usual anti- American banter and watch the standing start 0-175 all in one gear. Amazing motor which renders most shift points inessential. Fun starts at 1:40.

Clarkson's review was spot on. Pay 100K pounds more for the Ferrari and match the Z06 performance, with some more street roadability. Of course he doesn't go on to say that cost of ownership of the Ferrari is also exorbitant.
