Watch in the background @5:11 mins to the left of Tadge... some dweeb tries to get into the car, and is promptly told to GTFO.

That's what you get when you try to have a conversation with someone as old as joe. Haven't you seen enough of his posts by now? He knows everything!!!

Excuse my bluntness but ONLY A FREAKIN' MORON would ever point fingers at/complain about a $53k car lacking some of the attributes that a $160k (911 Turbo S) one possesses.
Your credibility here was already shot...and now you've thrown it completely off the charts.
No offense.

And like your POS BMW Z3.2, the Porsche 911 still uses the el cheapo, antiquated, econobox, McPherson struts in the front suspension. It defies all logic why anybody with any sense would pay so much for so little.

Do you not ever get tired of making these embarrassing posts? I must admit, it's amazing how much stupidity was packed into this one...if that's what you're going for, you should be proud.
Exactly.

Some folks are such 'experts' that they never actually create a useful thread, just want to whine on everyone else's threads.

Amazing how many idiots walk up and start yanking on the doors, leaning on the car and generally sticking their meat beaters on the car....

Does anyone know exactly how much MPG the 8 speed would improve over the 6?

I hope they refine the paddle shift, they need to be huuuuuge behind the wheel like in a Lambo haha

It is interesting to see whether they give automatic car to reviewers or not. I think it would be foolish to not to because they really don't have anything to lose as expectations are not high.

In fact one of the worst cars to take on a trip in is a BMW of that era because of their cruising rpms. But the mags still loved them, even with their inadequacies.
That is not restricted to BMWs. Most German marquees of that era did that. Surprisingly, still got great gas mileage though.

I do wish he would just say what we all KNOW, that the GM 8 speed auto isn't ready yet.

In the end, I will order a manual (like always), but the automotive press sure didn't do him any favors with the Aisin 8 speed auto rumor, since almost 3/4ths of Corvettes are ordered with automatics.

dont know about auto but the MT 6sp in Z06 the 5th and 6th slows it down abit ..you wont feel it but if you racing to high speed for example an SLR you will notice the SLR may start to gain on you slowly once you are in 5th.. so if we had 7 gears 5th and 6th will be in better use

The drop off in pull is going into 5th is noticeable on the Z06, especially if doing a standing mile run. 5th gear in the ZR1 is a different ratio (09 to 12, and with the performance trans option after that), and drop off in pull is not an issue. That difference in gearing for 5th and 6th is largely why the Z hits top speed in 5th, but the ZR does in 6th. Those two top gears are different ratios b/n the two.

So the ratios have a lot to do with it.

I care less about the number of gears and more about the speed in which the shifts occur. A 6-speed PDK-like transmission would be just fine by me!

This old Top Gear video should remind us of the main reason a 8 sp. trans is unnecessary in a Corvette. Light weight, powerful car with a massively wide torque band that almost all other sports cars do not have. Cut through Clarkson's usual anti- American banter and watch the standing start 0-175 all in one gear. Amazing motor which renders most shift points inessential. Fun starts at 1:40.

Clarkson's review was spot on. Pay 100K pounds more for the Ferrari and match the Z06 performance, with some more street roadability. Of course he doesn't go on to say that cost of ownership of the Ferrari is also exorbitant.
