What are the chances for a Targa Top in the ZO6 & ZR1?
Hi guys -
I'm not too sure, but I was under the impression that the only reason that the ZO6 & ZR1 didn't have a targa top was due to the torque of those cars, or perhaps even the aluminum frame in the 'O6.
Now that ALL of the new C7 'Vettes have an aluminum frame, and that the unveiled model indeed had a targa top, is there any chance in hell that the ZO6 and/or the ZR1 could come with one as well?
Chime in!

The real question to me is will there be convertible Z's from the git go! None of this screwing around making convertible lovers decide between slower convertibles and faster hardtops. A last-year 427 is BS.

They did it with the ole 427 3x2 so you are correct. I just don't see it happening. It would be cool if I was wrong!

I guess we just have to wait and see. We also have to wait and see if there is a new Z or ZR1. I know there have been post that there will be, but we really don't know if it will be that Z06 or ZR1 of the past. Although with the new design they will need to come up with some sort of high performance car to car this a world class sports car. Right now at 450 hp and 450 ft. lbs of torques it is not.

Don't worry, they're coming. Of this I have no doubt at all.

Melting Slicks
Flying roofs don't do well on tracks!
All kidding aside, I have wondered the same thing. Given that the new frame is much more stiff, one could make an argument for it. That said, if the primary intent of the car is a competitve track vehicle, the targa will only add weight and possibly even a safty concern for a track intended vehicle. That said, I could see it being an option but I'm not sure if it would behoove Chevrolet to make it standard as they will be trying to save weight where ever they can while also maintaining rigidity.

I agree that GM has to come out with a performance model, I am just not sure we will see what we have all come to know as the Z06 or the ZR1. They may have something else in mind base on a different engine.

Very well could be, considering the C7's departure from "the norm", but it seems that no matter what they call it, at MINIMUM it would have to stick with or surpass the current ZR1 if they want to remain truly competitive.

Safety Car
The reason why it wasnt on the z06/r1 in the last gen because of the frame.
Now all the cars use the same frame, so the chance of z06/r1 having a targa top are 100%.

I certainly hope they do. I understand why my ZR1 doesn't, but I do hope the new chasis is stiff enough to allow it. If it isn't, it's not a deal breaker for me, but I would hate to think they'd not allow it just because someone thinks that the higher level performance variants ought to be fixed roof.
