Default How rain friendly is the new hood scoop?

I wouldn't want water dripping all over my engine if I parked the car in the rain. How did they mange water with the new scoop?

You don't, you have to sign a waiver at purchase you will not drive it in the rain no matter what as it will void the warranty

In the brochure, it shows a hood scoop cover that you put on right before it rains that covers that area. It also lowers the Cd of the car because of science.

The scoop is a scoop, not just an open hole over the engine. (Actually, it's not even really a scoop, though it does draw in higher-pressure cooler air).

It opens up into the air intake so, presumably, there are drain holes in the bottom.

So the water enters from the top, goes to the bottom, and drains out--all without ever touching the engine, electricals, etc.

If you look to the upper left, you can see the hood vent box from the underside. IF you look just below it, you can see the 'funnel' that hood vent box fits into. Looks like it should seal pretty well. I have no idea how the drainage works but there must be some system we just haven't seen yet.

just a question... not bashing the car.

If you are driving in the rain will it flow rain through that scoop and onto the windshield?

Assuming it doesn't get boiled off by the hot radiator it's going through first, then sure there's a chance it could hit the windshield. I think that hot piece of aluminum blocking the airflow will take care of it though....

Vettes are not supposed to be driven in the rain, so it's a non-issue.

Read the Chevy site folks, it is a HEAT EXTRACTOR HOOD…

It is designed for air to move UP & OUT of the hood vent, not down & in…

It is not feeding the air intake box, it is exhausting (EXTRACTING) air that passes over the radiator…

Sorry, yes, you are correct. It's not the intake but rather the radiator extractor box that it seals to.

Either way, it's not a hole over the engine.

Like on he Shelby GT500's, Rain won't bother it one bit... If you are a clean freak... I would worry. Otherwise drive it and love it.
