This years sales will either validate the redesign or show that the sales increase wasn't near what they hoped for and if that is the case nothing is off the table with GM anymore when it comes to altering the design. Speaking strictly about the blue car it would not take much for GM to incorporate those tail lights into the existing design if they thought it would have broader appeal and increase sales.

The need for sales improvement and market share gain is what drive their decisions anymore and they don't have the financial freedom they used to have.

I think when this years full year sales are accounted for next January then we will have good data to talk about. Too early in the year yet. Does anyone know what total sales for the new stingray were as of December 31st 2013?

How soon till we see a square headlight conversion with C6 guys? People usually try to make their car look like the newer model. I saw a lot more C5 guys going to fixed headlights, than I saw C6 going to flip-ups. Just saying....

People are still going to buy the new C7 despite the ugly rear end because it is the best engineered and best performing Corvette ever made. So it is hard to say how many are still sitting on the sidelines because of the looks of rear end. Personally it is not growing on me.

People may usually want to make their car look like the newer model, but not so much when the newer model doesn't look good. Also, a lot of people are fine with the C7 lights themselves. It is the rest of the rear that looks horrible to me and many others. There are also those who really want round our "round-like" lights. There opinions certainly should be taken into account, but I have no problem with the C7 lights. The rest of the C7 looks great. Too bad they stuck that rear on it.

The sales numbers of the C7 "as is" is the only opinion that matters to GM at this point. We will know better in a few months how it's selling.

After roughly four months on the market, General Motors has extended allocation of the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray to all 3,000 Chevrolet dealerships in the United States.
Allocation of the new Corvette was limited to just 900 dealers when the car first went on sale in September, with eligibility being determined by a dealer’s past Corvette sales results. To be eligible for allocation, dealers must have sold at least 4 Corvettes in 2012.
“They are (now) all eligible and it is up to them to decide if they want to participate,” Chevrolet spokesperson Monte Doran told Edmunds.
Given that initial demand for the 2014 Corvette was high and supply was limited during the car’s launch, GM opted to allocate the first several thousand C7s produced to dealers that could sell them quickly. Through the end of November, approximately 7,000 examples of the C7 have been sold.
Now that all U.S. Chevrolet dealers have allocation from GM, those that want to sell the C7 need to meet certain criteria. That criteria consists of sending at least one employee to a one-and-a-half day training session at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada. The program costs $2,000 per employee, not including travel expenses.

The above is from the GM site. Not a bad start when you look at 2013 sales of the stingray

I guess I just don't get it. I think the rear end looks great the way it is on the C7. This is my third Corvette and I think that the trapezoidal tail lights are a very modern look. The round or oval lights do nothing special for me. I like the new "mean" look.

Just imagine what it must have been like at GM between all the people working on the design and engineering team when developing what the Corvette would look like. As evident by this thread which houses some great renditions, there is no consensus. Imagine what it was like trying to sell design elements internally. Must have been maddening!

Replying to a 6 month old thread?

I think the taillight controversy has been pretty well decided in GM's favor with over 30,000 C7s sold. Haters will still hate, but a lot of people obviously like the new look, including me.

People are buying the new C7 because it is an incredible car in spite of the ugly rear end. I know several owners that still don't like the rear end, but had to have the new C7 because the rest of the car was so good.
