Default news flash, C7 is _HEAVIER_ than C6

from leftlanenews:

http://www.leftlanenews.com/new-car-...olet/corvette/

Lightweight Components
For the first time, the base Corvette rides on an aluminum frame – a feature previously reserved for Z06 and Z51 models. The new setup is 99 pounds lighter and 57 percent stiffer than the C6’s steel unit. To save additional weight, the hood and roof are constructed from carbon fiber, and the underbody trays are said to be lighter than before.

Despite those measures, the new Corvette’s higher content level will likely mean it ends up slightly heavier than the C6, which weighed in at 3208 pounds.

OMFG even I didnt think it was this bad

okay how about this quote from edmunds:

GM was not specific about curb weight other than acknowledging that, yes, the C7's curb weight will be higher than the current car. Our guess is that the new car will gain about 100 pounds over the C6. Weight distribution is not yet finalized, but we expect a slight rearward move to 49/51 percent front/rear.

now do you believe me?

No because didn't they actually announce it was 50/50?

Lightweight materials, including a carbon fiber hood and removable roof panel; composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; carbon-nano composite underbody panels and a new aluminum frame help shift weight rearward for an optimal 50/50 weight balance that supports a world-class power-to-weight ratio

Not saying it's not going to be heavier but it hasn't been proven yet. With all the bells and whistles as well as safety advances it could be heavier.

That's so crazy and disappointing that a car can drop 150 lbs yet gain weight...

I'll have to see it. Wow am I and others going to be extremely disappointed if the car is something like 3300 lbs. C&D said 3350....wtf

I am a little shock when I read the article detailing the C7 will probably be heavier than the C6. We were all so positive on the C7 being lighter than the current model with the aluminum frame. I guess with all those electronics gizmo and extra options..it is safe to bet it will weigh around the current GS model. And some guys predicted 3,000 pounds Maybe a Z06 or ZR1 model but not the base C7 model.

What's the big deal? It'll weigh about the same as a late C6 Z06/Z07.

How will the make the z06/zr1 lighter? Carbon fiber frame and wheels and torque tube? Is the blower gonna drop its weight? Highly disappointed if its heavier than a c6

IF the overall car was lighter than the current model then GM would have made a big stink of it during the unveiling... but nothing of such nature was stated. With that fancy shmancy interior you can bet it'll be heavier.

I'm enjoying my 3000 lb LS7 powered C5Z

If this is true, wow. A comedy of errors.

The C6 will be holding its own for a LONG time.

We don't have any final specs yet. None. You are making up assumptions.

If the car weighs 3300lbs and makes 460-470hp, I really don't see anything to complain about.

Not just weight but even a more important factory is $$$$$ will cost alot more than the transition form C-5 to C-6. But people got money to burn.
