This may have been pointed out before, but you need to look closely ar the 68-73 rear styling. Start with the cars' overall width at the rear wheel arches. Then note how the fenders taper way inward after that, ending in a taillamp panel that is much narrower (ignore the chrome bumpers). The much-criticized big butts on C5 and C6 are nearly as wide as the width at the wheels (base car). For the C7 it appears that the designers are returning to that 68-73 tapered theme to achieve a small-appearing rear end even though the C7's overall width will be similar to the base C6.
