2023 C1 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified

Default C7 Shortfall

I just read the Car and Driver Jan 2013 article, "Corvette, Declassified" - so disappointing....

All these supposedly great engine modifications. Excuse me but the state-of-the-art is for for twin turbos. For comparison, turn 2 pages in the magazine and they flaunt the lethal Audi S6 with a 420-hp, twin -turbo 4.0 liter V8 that goes from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.

Square, Camaro taillights - you've GOTTA be kidding me!

Six speed auto transmission - the standard is 8 speeds my friends...

Flat, boring rear window, useless rear-side windows, it's a very sad day for corvettes!!!

The last paragraph in the C7 article says this is "arguably the most attractive, relevant Corvette since the 1963-67 "midyear" Sing Ray."

Really?! Give me a break!!

Buy the ZR version with bi-turbos

Square, Camaro taillights - you've GOTTA be kidding me!

Nobody has seen exactly what the lights will look like. Until 1/13/13 keep your opinions to yourself.

8 speed auto, or 7 speed manual standard on the C7.

Anyone that can make that comment without fully seeing the vehicle in person, isn't worth ink printed on the paper.

Interesting viewpoints. And I am willing to bet "arguably the most attractive, relevant Corvette since....." has been stated in some form or fashion with each change since the introduction of the first Corvette. And when the C8 comes out, this statement (or a variation of it) will be used again. And again. Until Corvettes come with harrier type propulsion.....and we hear it again

You have some reading to do my friend. That C&D article has to be some of the worst, lazy, misguided automotive journalism I've read in some time.

Put on all the turbos you want but I'd rather put my money on an equally powered car that's naturally aspirated. In other words, I'd much rather spend $95k on a 640hp NA V10 Viper than I would on a 640hp twinturbo V8 Viper, for instance. There's a reason why Ferrari and Lamborghini stick to naturally aspirated engines. The GTR and Volkswagen S6/S7 can go to hell for all I care. I wish my 640 had an NA engine. Oh well, at least the 'stang and z4 do. And my C7 will too

Personally speaking I think the major shortfall is a lack of perception on your part......... reading your post reminds me of when I hear of a recommendation for a driver mod as a cure for a low performing car

I truely believe the new corvette will be a awesome car!!!

Jumping to such conclusions before you've even seen the C7 is pretty, umm, ridiculous, don't you think??

I was disappointed to see the hidden headlights go when the C6 came out, but I love the C6 (especially wide-body models) now. I'll probably love the C7.

Final note: I'd much rather have a NA engine than a turbo if it was up to me. The best example I can think of is the Ferrari 458 vs. the McLaren. The Ferrari sounds incredible at high revs (as does the C6 Vette in my opinion). The McLaren is a very similar car to the Ferrari on paper, but it has a microscopic engine with twin-turbos on it, and it doesn't sound nearly as good. To me, a car has to look good, drive well, but also sound like a proper sports car.

How can any intelligent person rate a car before actually seeing what it looks like and what it is capable of. You're under a month away, just wait before you end up eating crow...

I would sell all my Vettes, my house, and my truck.........to have a Corvette C7 like that!

But maybe the starched collars at GM couldn't be so bold as to have a Supercar as bold as that one......shame.
