C7 Engine Seminar

Okay boys, 14 HP will not do the trick for me. I would bet something else goes with the dry sump system. I want at least 470 before I bite. The C6 is a very good car.
Anybody else notice on some of the LT1 drawings something is in front of the oil filter. Is that possiably part of the dry sump system.
I think the value of the lightly used ZO6's just went up.

For an opening first introduction with higher HP versions coming soon........ not so bad and will work for the less than hard core performance crowd.
It will be the same power as the GT3 Porsche that is 50 hp more than the standard base model Carrera (but with more torque and better millage )

Very dissapointing numbers for a new motor. 14 hp gain over the previous engine? The Mustang GT had an over 100 RWHP increase over the last motor it had. Hopefully GM pulled a ford and underrated it. I could see 480ish after its all set and done.

Yes, but could they make one that has slightly higher lift, and more duration (the LS3 has 4 degrees more intake and exhaust) that would add more horpower on the top end, maybe add titanium vailes and extend the rpm to 7000. There is no reason that a 6.2 DI should not make at least 475.

With all the new high tech motor goodies I would think the engineers could get more than some torque and 14 HP.
Anybody know what the blue line on the LT1 Torque Analysis graph represents....

The first post states "450HP OR MORE"
The Motor Trend article states 450HP, period.
So, who's right?
Jimmy
PS. I think (!) GM is playing this right. The forums have been littered with "500HP" for the base car forever. So, now they say "450HP (or more)" and when the final number comes out (we clearly have not seen the FINAL number), I'm guessing it will be closer to 485 or so.

twin profile cams are like this. you usually get a tighter LSA and less duration. the cam profiles in the honda vtec race motors for example. really not that crazy in overall duration. they just have really light LSA's ... lots of overlap
you also have to make sure you look at the big lobe. any variable timing engine will have a small primary and the larger secondary lobe

Doesn't hurt performance? Then why is the L99 Camaro 26 hp less than the LS3? Why is there a bulletin to replace the lifters when they start knocking?
They don't idle on 4, that would shake like a paint mixer. They use the 4 cyl mode on coast down and light load throttle.
Not to mention it requires an enormous resonator in the exhaust that kills any V8 rumble. Try to put a performance exhaust on an AFM L99 and the drone will drive you out of the car. Tune out the AFM, and your warranty is toast.
Drive an L99 Camaro, then an LS3 Camaro... then tell us how much you like AFM.

I also wanted to see more than 450 HP, but have hope that the official SAE certification will be higher. Even if not, the torque increase is impressive, and if the C7 is significantly lighter, the C7 will be incrementally faster than the C6, while achieving better mileage. I'm going to hold out until the finalized numbers are released in Jan before getting too upset.

When the numbers are official, it will likely be higher. Its already been on a dyno, so they know the numbers it outputs. When there was first talk with the ZL1, they claimed "over 570hp" or "570+" however you want to put it, and look...it turned out with 580. Could we see it reach 460? I dont see why not. Will that extra 10 horsepower satisfy people? Not likely, but stock LS3 to stock LT1....that torque will be a huge difference in how it drives.
How does that quote go? Torque is what gets you up to speed, horsepower is what keeps you there. Something like that.

The AFM lifter bulletin covers 7 model years of AFM V8 engines. I wish it was as simple as avoiding the first year. My mind was made up long ago, never ever owning another AFM engine.

I wouldn't expect much more than 450hp from this motor when specs are finally released. 15hp (465hp total) max.

B) You're comparing dohc to pushrod, the displacement argument is null and void.
C) Relax folks, no where does it say sae certified. Also, if anyone remembers the initial gt500(2013) talk, they were saying 650 @ some rpm. Hotrod magazine even did an article, stating without question, that as their man at the dyno watched the screen, it surpassed the 650 hp, and at a higher rpm. THEN there was talk of a 6500rpm redline and 7 second burst of an "overrev" feature to 7000rpms. Then 2 or 3 months later the official 662hp and 7000 rpm redline came out. Also, gm had came right out and said their goal for the ls9 was 100hp/L, up until the day it was certified. It's going to make more then 450hp. Heck, maybe the sneaky thing is it will make 450hp@6000rpms... but 465@6300rpms. That would mean they still told the truth.
I mean, the dyno sheet says "preliminary" torque and "estimated" hp. They arn't going to release it with less then their advertised estimate. Heck, maybe this is an auto version with slightly less hp then the manual version, say, the lt2. Doubtful, but I can assure you 450/450 isn't the final numbers.

I cannot believe you guys are missing some of the biggest news. trying ot read things that arent there in print, you are missing the bold letters. when picked out of the verbage, and unjumbled, they spell "taillights are square". J/k

Not impressed. All that technology and only a 14HP increase in power... WTF happened.
They gotta be sandbagging, 450 HP is ****. The 458 ferrari has only a 4.5 litre but makes 562HP, naturally aspirated.
This is there new high tech engine, but only makes 14 HP than their old LS3. It's a joke.
My guess is that you'll have to spend an extra $25,000 to get the performance option that makes real power.
GM powertrain guys.................. C'mon Man.

Well I have had 3 different c6s,Now in a caddy cts V and not looking back. I was hoping to see 475 to 480 hp in the base C7. Also I hate the dropping of cylinders in a performance car that stinks. I guess I will continue modding my V Will have over 630hp with minimal investment. Come on the new Viper,Each year Nissan raises the HP on the GTR,Mustang is getting high HP numbers,The C7 better step up.Sprry for the rant I am a huge Vette lover and want to see the best out of the next Gen. They should have raised the HP by at least 50hp not 14 or 20???
