Default Competition Raised the Bar!

The 2013 Nissan GTR just completed a 7:16 at the Ring (Nurburghring), beating the recent ZR1 time of 7:19. The new Porsche 918 did a 7:14. While Im not much interested in the C7 base, I cant wait to see the C7 ZR1 equivalent.

The current ZR1 has a hp deficit to the GT500 and Viper. Now there is a Ring deficit to the GTR. I cant help but think the C7 Zr1 will have 700hp+ and run the Ring in 7:15 or less. "Sonar Cuesta Nada".

For those who think the Ring is not important. Why does the ZL1 beat the GT500 around the track? The Ring!!!

I think the C7 ZR1 will get 700hp or very close to it. The viper is at 640, the ARC will no doubt have more, the GT-R seems to gain 30hp yearly. I think 700hp is the new bar for the higest performance varient of the C7.

The GTR was a performance variant with ceramic brakes and other goodies. Maybe the new Black edition or a Nismo. It wasnt the base model.

I think there is a paradigm shift coming. As we are more "easily" able to hit such high HP numbers these days, and yet still not able to plant all that as well as we'd all like to, I believe that you will soon start seeing progress in other directions.
The new bench marks will be performance numbers getting better with the "same ole" HP. The C7 may just be the first example of this.
While everyone is hollering "The C7 needs to have 500hp like the C6Z", the next "In Your Face" statements from GM just might be "yeah well we did the ring in 7:0? and we did it with only ?hp"

Not to mention we are beginning to knock on the door of electrically powered high performance sports cars......

Add all the HP you want but if you can't put it down, faggetaboutit! AWD is coming and it will make the ZR1 an animal that can really make the most of it's awesome power.

ok, I can see this too. These HP numbers have to plateau at some point. I definetly agree that GM has to figure out how to better put the power to the ground/improve traction off the line. Imagine a C6 ZO6/ZR1 with AWD!!

AWD, like it or not may not come into play until it's All Wheel Electric Drive.
I don't believe we are all that far off till we start seeing more cars like the Tesla. I'm not one for wanting to give up the beautiful sound of a throaty V8. But I suppose it's something I'll learn to live with when the trade off is having a motor that can achieve peak torque in just 7rpm.
I believe we are going to see leaps and bounds in the battery/power-cell technology over the course of the next 10yrs, so the C8 just might end up at the very least a hybrid.
But for now, I just don't see GM doing the AWD in the C7 or they would have done it by now, and we would have heard something about it.
I do believe they are very much missing the boat on the failure to bring about a DCT though.

AWD is just wishful dreaming on my part, I don't expect it to happen at all. I agree with your DCT statement as well.
