2013 Detroit Auto Show: Anybody going?
With the C7 talk getting louder these days.. and considering I didnt make it to Carlisle this year.. I've been talking the idea over with my Dad (a big Corvette enthusiast) about attending to the 2013 Auto Show, mainly to see the 2014 C7 world introduction.
I've been to Detroit on business travel a couple of times and its a very inexpensive city to visit & enjoy. I've stayed in the Westin Book Cadillac and can personally vouch it is a very nice hotel within walking distance of the Convention Center (3-4 blocks). In addition to all the automotive history, the MGM Grand casino (which is also 3-4 blocks away) provides a great nightlife & casino fun, Detroit professional sport teams are decently talented and Canada is right across the river. I was honestly surprised at how much there was to do on my last trip there in mid-December 2010. The weather also wasnt that bad, considering it was winter. None of my flights were delayed and I had no problem getting around during winter. All major sidewalks were clear and there were plenty of cabs available.
I'm still putting together the trip. And trying to convince a friend, who owns a C5, is interested in a C6Z06 and loves Autoshows to come along. So here are some links below that I've sent him, that might help others. The "public" show starts on Jan 19th and hotel rooms & cheap flights are definitely available. Flights are showing $200 roundtrip out of the Washington, DC area and rooms at the Westin start at $220 a night. Sounds like a great way to spend $500 bucks on a weekend and get to see the C7 first, although Ill probably use some miles/points to pay for the trip. The Detroit show is a pretty big show and its also International. So you'll also get to see what the competition is bringing to the table for 2014.

If you are planning on putting down a deposit for a C7, why not see it in person first to make sure you want to be one of the first lol.

Don't forget the "ballet" in Windsor, should the Corvette not get your blood flowing.

I'm already scheduled to be there Wednesday, during the Indusrty Preview day... this takes place the week before the NAIAS is opened to the public.
I only went once to the Detroit NAIAS during its "open to the public" operation...
Never Again!!!
Once I attended the week before "Indusrty Preview" - that's the only way I will go nowdays. You practically have the place to yourself

I have my tickets and am ready to go!!!!!!! I'll be there on reveal day, and can't wait..... I almost don't want to see spy photos before I get there, but know they'll be out. Then again I don't like to open my Christmas presents before the 25th either..... LOL
I am guessing, even though it will be industry days only, getting close to the car will require lot's of persistance, but I will have all day if it takes.

Cobo is only about 2 hours away for me so I go every year. Its a great show and has gotten better in the last few years with some high end cars. I would like to try the Industry preview myself too. The public showings are crazy packed with people, hard to get a close look. I see the tickets are $95 each, which would be well worth it because of less people. Not sure if you have to be a dealer or part supplier? If you have not been to the show before its a real good time. You can park at the Joe Louis parking garage too or there are many other places to park

I'm not car nuts enough to go to Detroit in the middle of the coldest month of the year for anything. That is why I went to Pebble Beach in August!
The media will tell me everything GM wants me to know about the C7...'was all this C7 Forum BS anywhere close to correct or not'!
Then I can wait ANOTHER 8 MONTHS to see one on the street.

On saturday or sunday there are lines in the lobby waiting for 9am when the doors open. But quickly you're inside and it's not crowded for the first couple of hours. Gets pretty crowded by mid afternoon saturday or sunday. Weekdays are not bad.

I want to go but just can't justify the time/expense. I did sign up for a countdown timer to the show, and check it often! I've been looking at this thing since the count was like 190 days.

I just spoke to Maggie at the Detroit show. She said you don't have to be an industry dude to get in during Industry week, you just have to pay $100 per person and no one under 12 allowed that week.
