Guess what the HP/tq will be of the base C7
Lets officially speculate on what the base C7 hp & tq will be and we can look back & see who was the closest.
Here is my "educated" guess:
501 hp & 450 tq.
Post your educated guess & lets see who comes closest on hp & tq numbers.
If we have to wait for real information, we can at least have fun while we wait. I have seen a number of people speculate so now we can use this thread to look back upon who got close & who was off the mark.

Just saying, you've got a lot of cars on the market "in the game" advertising numbers in the 500's. American's are too stupid to understand power/weight ratio because everyone lives by peak hp numbers and 1/4 mile times. If you put out a 2500lb vette with 400hp everyone would start crying that it got slower and sucks before they even read the facts.
I have multiple theories here....it's a tough call.
If GM does away with the pushrod V8 and goes with variable valve lift and/or timing...you could see a revvier 500hp engine with a lower torque figure like 400tq. Also, it's GOING to have SIDI direct injection technology for sure. We know they are playing with less displacement, so that'll likely impact tq. Direct injection allows higher compression while maintaining combustion stability though...and allows for greater volumetric efficiency. Variable valve technologies can also allow much better cylinder fill at low port velocities, which recovers torque.
Marketing likes even numbers though....hmmmmm....hmmmmmmm.
I'm going 480hp/415tq out of a 5.5 liter.

C7 w/ 5.5L V8 Direct Injection & no VVT
Base C7 Hp=500
Torque=450
If the C7 engine output numbers are lower than these numbers I will be disappointed unless the overal weight comes down to ~~~3100 lbs.
I would really like to see VVT on the C7.
Cheers,

I'm still not sure where some of you are getting this '5.5L displacement' from (it might be that small, or it might not be) but if it does turn out to be true it will NOT be making 500hp.
Even the 470-485hp that I've been predicting (hoping for) is based on something of at least 6.0L (or larger) and not a 5.5L.

There seems to be two camps on CF, one wanting the base to have HP approaching or greater than 505 and the other satisfied keeping it in the area of 430. With only a base C7 probably being offered early for the 2014 with no GS, Z06, or ZR1 until ?, what is the solution? Offer several engine options on the base Coupe and Convertible. There will be no 427?
So, I predict: Base engine 5.5-6.0 with HP/TQ 455/430
Z51? engine 6.2 with HP/TQ 525/500
There will be no body panel differences to separate the
two, but maybe either interior or exterior badging along with tire/wheel options. Corvette fuel efficiencies will lead the way starting with the C7.
