Default How fast will the C7 go?

Predictions of 2014 base model and 2015 zr1 model.

I believe for the base model top speed will be 200mph.

I believe for the zr1 model top speed will be 210mph.

What do you guys think?

I believe beginning with the c7 the factory will cease from making top speed claims, instead leaving the matter to be resolved in print and media, which could take several years for a consensus, while debated in comparos and on youtube. I've actually never seen the top speed test of the current grand sport or base car independently verified. I do not believe the ZR1 makes a return in the c7. I also think that with the realities of a government owned car company, we may see the introduction of top speed limiters, quietly slipped in, and ultimately mandated for all cars.

I think we need to know hp/lb ratio and its gearing.

Knowing the torque curve would be helpful as well.

160 is plenty but given how there should be a 7 spd, I'll guess 215.

What will a 5.5 liter with 440hp do?

I assume legally it can hit 85mph on some portions of I10

I too think a top speed claim will not be part of the press kit.

I think top speed claims are tired, at this point. Unless you're going for the top speed record, i.e. above 250mph, I don't think it matters much. The Mustang GT500 claim seemed outrageous so it got some attention, but that's because it's thought to be a muscle car with the aero of a brick.

Corvette has nothing to gain by making a top speed claim -- whatever it is, it'll be expected, or even disappointing. Top speed is good for gas station small talk with non-car-guy morons; to me the very question is an indication that I don't want to talk to you.

BTW, lb/hp doesn't really figure. Top speed is all about aero.

Depends on the weight and gearing of course.

But why do you ask, do you know for sure that the 2014 Corvette is going to have a 440hp 5.5L V8?

I ask for a very good reason.

Ahh, so the C7 will definitely/absolutely/without a doubt have a 440hp 5.5L V8 as it's base engine?
I mean, I assume that's what you're implying and that you are so sure of it that you would even bet your Corvette on it having that exact horsepower and displacement?

And to think all this time some of us thought that this '5.5L' thing was just a rumor started years ago by a person or two that happened to notice that the C6Rs were using that displacement to meet the requirements of one of the classes that they competed in.
Good to know, thanks.

I want to believe 6.2L 500hp Thereby matching the hp level of the outgoing C6Zo6 (as they did when they went from the C5 to the C6).

Just speculation, but I believe with its new tech and upgraded interior, the base C7 will hit current base ZO6 price levels ($70k-$75k). That being said, I do not think we are going to see 5 different models with the C7.

My guess is a base C7 with current ZO6 performance and a higher performance ZR1. (No Zo6 or widebody Grand Sports)

I did not look up the def on the term " speculation " but I am assuming that you have a basis of some sort because to speculate is very different from guessing. You got my attention because my dealer said no " wide body " too. Any basis for your prediction Paul ?

Also, Ed Welburn did mention the C7 interior was 99% clean sheet where the rest of the car was not.

Number of gears in the transmission has nothing to do with the car's top speed. it's the gear ratio's(transmission and differential) and horsepower and the car's aero that determine the car's top speed.

For the 2013 Corvette.

Base w/LS3(6500 rev limit) = 190 MPH in fifth gear @ 5820 RPM.
Z06 w/LS7(7000 rev limit) = 198 MPH in fifth gear @ 6060 RPM.
ZR1 w/LS9(6500 rev limit)= 205 MPH in fifth gear @ 6300 RPM.

Having a sixth gear does not have anything to do with the cars top speed except for the ZR1 which has enough horsepower to reach 205 MPH top speed in either 5th or 6 the gear. The LS3 and LS7 do not have enough horsepower to achieve a faster top speed in 6th gear due to the .5:1 gearing in 6th gear.

Unofficially, it'll make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.

I 'm sorry. You're right, I should have said "guessing" It is just my opinion based on what makes sense to me and a short conversation with a local dealer (which means nothing really).

I just don't see chevy making 5 different versions this time around . I believe the ZO6 will go away with the "427."

I've been shopping around for a used ZR1 and I had a local dealer (who had two ZR1s and two ZO6s) tell me that if it were his decision, he would choose to purchase a ZO6 over a ZR1 becasue he thinks it will hold its value better. He felt strongly that the ZO6 and the 427 engine was going away. When I asked him why he felt that way, he stated that the C7 will surpass the performance of the C6 ZO6 in every way and that his "sources" indicate only one higher performance model. He would not go into any more detail. Probably just BS but take from that what you will.
