Looks like to me than the SRT Viper GTS would be in the same class as the current ZR1 and the SRT Viper would be in the same class as Z06 but since we don't know for sure if the ZR1 and Z06 will even be available in a C7 its hard to compare. Comparing the Viper to the current ZR1 and Z06 I think the Vette wins in both based on cost, drivability, looks but that is just my ideas everyone has their own.
I don't really think the Viper will have a impact on the C7 vette as it will only be in limited production, I think I heard only a couple thousand a year which I think is close to the ZR1 numbers but don't hold me to that as I am not 100% sure.

Oh and let us not forget about ZR-1 getting a power boost in 1993, one year after first Viper rolled out... LOL Are you really that naive? I hope not...

Sorry but not following you here, I am not sure how long before rolling it out, Daimler announced their first car but getting really sick and tired seeing those "teasers" from GM while everyone else just gets their cars done and roll them out. Maybe GM should just stop this annoying campaign until they have something to show? This is why GM is so pathetic.
The C7 is going to be sold as a 2014 model, which means, at the least, we are still many months away from seeing shots or teasers. If the C7 was being sold as a 2013 model and hadn't been revealed by now, your argument would have slightly more validity. But this is a car that is going on sale a full year later. You can't expect photos to fall out of the sky anytime you want them.

So you think GM made Z06 and then ZR1 out of the goodness of their hearts? 2003-500 hp Viper, 2006-500 hp Z06. 2008-600hp Viper, 2009-630 hp ZR1. I guess this is just a string of random events

Well, you should if you claim viper has no influence on corvette. Viper happened because of corvette and completely turned things around, all GM seems to be doing now is trying to keep up. Viper has been out of production for two years but it never went away. Now, Viper is out again an surprise, surprise, C7 is announced to appear next year. This is what is really pathetic about GM. Seeing how things work at GM, it will take them another couple of years to come up with a real competitive version of C7-after testing new viper.

There is a difference between hp wars and halo vehicle wars. No matter what mustang will be and how much power it packs, it is still a mustang, hardly an image vehicle-this is why Ford had to come up with Ford GT and is currently working on a remake.

Sweet looking ride, but you can bet it is still more of a weekend "toy" or track-day specialist than the Vette, including the price competitive Z06 and ZR-1 models. Doesn't really make a new design statement as it looks very much like a well thought out Gen 1 GTS.
Oh and it is fun to see PETERMJ back raising hackles. The man leads with his chin more than Gerry Cooney used to...

Not exactly sure what a halo vehicle is but I do agree that the stang is not in the same group as the vette.

imo, looks like a clap trap of the original-looks cheap.
hard to believe ferrari/lambo are distant design cousins, and Fiat plans to keep it that way-with "distant" being the operative word.
2012 and a manual transmission is the only offering
Original Viper to New Viper akin to WindowsXP to Vista?
the sports car and os have moved way beyond.
Congrads to GM-the C7 has already won.

You may want to read up on the new viper before jumping in any conclusions, the spaghetti sauce was smeared only over the seats, the rest of the car is still true to its roots that do not include golf club bag compartment or church parking lot curb finders. And THANK GOD FOR MANUAL TRANNY ONLY. Judging from your comment, SRT got it right on the money.

what goofy means exactly? I always thought the fenders and flares all around on vette widebodies looked goofy. I like the idea of not needing front splash guards on viper...

Just wondering why they used their old side styling and every other part is a new design . I like the front and back but the side takes you back to the first viper . Just strange

If you read the release review comments, the new Viper is a dust-off of the last Viper produced. The high end version seems to have been updated more in the interior, but the base model still has cloth interior, etc.

I don't dislike the Viper as a performance sports car, but sure would never enjoy one as much as I do the Corvette for daily use. Other folks may feel differently.

Couldn't people say the same thing about the C6 being a dust off of the C5? What about the "new" BMW M3 that looks the same as it ever did.
Was GM wrong to design the C6 so similar to the C5?
They did it because the C5 was highly sucessful, GM was smart to re-hash the concept that worked so well. Same concept...different brand.
Designers choose not to stray too far from the core design for a good reason. People loved the original one.
