Ok this might be something....or may not be anything at all. I have no clue on deadlines, ordering information or such...

I noticed on the Corvette GM Plants site....NO TOURS AFTER Sept 13th! Iam guessing that is because the 2014 vette will begin to take over the plant then? If it is going to be shown for January 2013 and sold in mid 2013 are the dates about right for production to begin?

I don't think MY2014 customer-car production begins in September.

It just means there may be C7 parts in the building that they don't want anyone to glimpse. Pilot cars, new production areas, etc. And given architectural similarity, I would expect they'd be able to do some part of early C7 assembly on the existing C6 line.

May 4, 2011 - "GM North American President Mark Reuss brought some very good news to state and local community leaders in Bowling Green as well as for the 500 employees of the Corvette Assembly Plant and Corvette lovers everywhere. General Motors will be investing $131 million in the plant for upgrading tooling and machinery and will create as many as 250 new jobs in advance of producing the up-coming C7 Corvette."

This what starts in September, 2012. It is the biggest retool job they have done for quite a while. Something must be changing big time.....

True.

It's not at all uncommon for Corvette/Bowling Green plant tours to cease prior to the new model changeover, even if it's almost a year out.

I have it on the highest level it's just for routine annual window washing and flea fogging of the plant. A friend of a buddy of mine was at a dealership and a guy from GM came in and showed the Sales Manager at the dealership pictures of the actual 'fogger' but for obvious security reasons could not leave the picture or allow copies to be made.

I thought the early/preproduction vehicles were put together in Detroit. I think they are hand built completely to see how they would be built on a line and things get re-engineered on the spot so assembly works smoothly.

They do not want to do this on a factory floor as it would stop the line.

That was my thought too after reading All Corvettes Are Red. I expect the closing of the plant to tours is to retool the line as has been said.
