Corvette Central: Revamped C7, radical mid-engined C8 in GM's plans
Has anybody ever noticed the following article before? I like what I see!

Technically, the Corvette is already mid engine. I hate the idea of a Corvette with the engine behind the seats, as the casual meaning of mid engine suggests. I don't see the point as it would be too distant from Corvette heritage.

I'm all about mid engine, if its done right, but it would be nice to see GM offer a front engine v-8 or and mid design v-10 for sale. And I would definitely buy the next corvette if it looks as good as this concept.

Still full of ghey Transformer car overzeal, but getting there, and well proportioned in a mid-engine config.
That was over two years ago. U-G-L-Y. Ain't gonna happen in this economy or the next.
So this pulls up next to, say, the most beautiful C6 ZR1 ever. If one person, even a blind person, is still looking at the ZR1, or even knows it exists, 15 seconds later, I'd buy you enough beer to blow out your shocks driving it home. Do you know why the Stingray concept was radical looking? You may have noticed, but the Corvettes performance numbers have recently been on par with Lamborghini and Ferrari. It's time they have a car that looks like a car that is on par with Lamborghini and Ferrari. That one did.

technically its not...a boxster, 458 italia etc are true mid engine or RMR
ZR1 and some grand sports have 51-52 percent of the vehicle weight up front...hardly the ideal weight distribution of a true mid engine layout.
i have not heard one Corvette engineer ever refer to the current corvette as being mid engined...Yes, the mid engined term used to describe the C6 drive train layout has been lightly used here on the forum and automotive world, almost never debated... but that doesnt allow us to simply classify it as being one and should not stop GM from moving towards that direction.
I say if team Corvette will be going that radical, they might as well turn it into a brand and offer both layouts...or give the mid engined supercar to Cadillac

There is one and only one reason to put the mid-engine behind the drivers head--accelerative traction. Apparently, one cannot get into the low 3.x second 0-60 range with the engine up front on street tires.

IMHO, if a change from the heritage creates a better car, then lets get cracking at making tomorrows heritage with something new today.

The ZR1 is a gussied up C6 and this thing pops.
Ever go to a car show where Vettes, Lambos and Ferraris are in the field? Even the owners of the best Vettes get to spend a lot of time by themselves...

mid-engine
Sooner or later this is going to happen. We keep saiding that wouldn't make it Corvette, but remember that the first Vette were 6 cylinder. So this is what made it great so lay back and let it happen, all this will do show the world that America can still build great cars. And if the General don't do it remember that Chysler still has Mr. Giles.
