I feel confident there will be a Z06. Chevy has been trying to make the corvette like Porsche. A base model and convertible (Carrera, Carrera Cabriolet) A performance model like the grand sport (Carrera S and cabriolet) A track car like the Z06 (GT3) and a High Power range topping car (GT2, turbo model) and with the forth coming z06 convertible its like turbo cabriolet.
If GM can sell any amount of each model they will make them. They are all based of the Base car and the Z06, save for the zr1 engine and brakes. they all share one or the others frame and body parts. So cost of making the different models isn't that high. It makes sense that's why they are only testing two different coupes.

I guess trogdor17 was referring to the upcoming 2013 427 Convertible (which is not an aluminum frame Z06).
What makes the Z06 a Z06? Is it the LS7, aluminum frame, different fenders, different brakes? The 427 Convertible will have all those except the light frame.
I'm confident there will be a C7 Z06, maybe not in the first year, but performance options will come.

I had a hunch that's what he was referring to. It's a Grandsport Convertible with an LS7, not a Z06 Convertible. Just trying to get clarification from what he was talking about, and making sure he was given the correct info.

All of the above.
True, not quite a true Z06 so maybe we'll just refer to it as 'semi Z06'.

Z-06 and Grand Sport were both born during the C2 vette run. ZR1 born during C3. And all three have been on-again, off-again, on-again in sense of their use.
So who knows which - if any of them (perhaps the halo model will be called Stingray for instance) - will be used for C7
But I agree, C7 will likely have a halo model.

I personally think the C6 line became a little too broad. We may not see the Z06 for some time. Two models seems about right. We shall have to see though. I will have my C7 heavily modified to the Max long before another variant launches. It will be an aftermarket test mule too, so I am not too worried about the performance available on later models.

I still think that the C7 line will eventually (not the very first year) look something like this:
Base model
Grand Sport/Z51 type model (a base car with some ZR1 bits & pieces)
ZR1 model (maybe supercharged, maybe turbocharged, maybe more cubic inches?)
But don't quote me.
