Default News on the C7...

Hopefully this wasn't already posted but here goes:

Chevrolet’s C7 Corvette delayed until 2013, no mid-engine layout

The things that CAFE regulations will make automakers do is pretty frightening for us car enthusiasts. Even some of America’s famous sports cars, like the Corvette, aren’t safe from wrath of strict fuel-economy regulations.

Well we have some good news for you today. No one at GM is talking about a mid-engine C7 Corvette anymore. Previous reports suggested that Bob Lutz and other GM exes were leaning toward a mid-engine layout for the next-generation C7 ‘Vette since it would be easier to cut fuel-economy from a mid-mounted LS3 V8. Basically, GM decided that due to the high-cost of switching from the current front-engine layout to a mid-engine was not worth it.

Still the C7 Corvette is not likely to launch earlier than 2013 as a 2014 model year. According to Motor Trend, a 3.6L direct-injection V6 for the C7 could be on the drawing boards.

I dunno about you, but to me it almost looks like a photochopped Z06? a little tug and squeeze of the car

Yep! It's been posted before.

I don't think you will ever see a V-6 Vette. Tom Wallace did say the C7 will be about 300 to 400 pounds lighter and probably have around 300HP. Which should keep it almost as quick.

3-4 hundred pounds lighter is NOT going to make up for a 136hp loss.

Awesome news!! I'd like my body style to last another couple of years, although it's probably moot as it will be sold in 3-5 years, but it will be close.

that thing is ugly. looks more like a lotus then a vette. THey wont release that. The early concepts are always drastic. They will smooth it out. Make it look better

The 2010 Camaro will have a 300hp V6. I could see CAFE forcing it into the Vette at some point and the V8 will be an upgrade option.

Pure speculation. The people who know aren't talking but people who don't know are talking a lot.

I wouldn't bet the retirement account on that assumption.

The only "global engine" in the GM portfolio is the Holden sourced Alloytec V6.

Factory forged crank, forged rods and slugs to match.

It it's current direct injection form; in the Cadillac CTS with a factory PCM calibration; lays down 304 BHP.

Aftermarket CAI, performance catback exhausts and AFR MAP recalibrations are netting 340 SAE BHP on the same V6 Alloytec.

As a GM global engine; this little darling in a low boost turbocharged trim will lay down 375 BHP with a 50 state AFR MAP PCM calibration according to GM.

IMO; as this engine is future powerplant in a turbocharged form in the next C7; much like the turbocharged V6 in the Nissan GT-R

I could care less if its 300-400lbs lighter. Unless the Z06 model has more than 505hp, I dont want it.

Some of the prophets here might be correct that the C6 version could very well be GM's last high HP Corvette, hope so as I dont want to buy another and want my current Z's value to go through the roof

It was not so much as the often described "Arab Oil Embargo", but rather Federal clean air and emissions standards that killed the first generation (1963 - 1972) muscle car era.

I am 48 years old and was fortunate enough to have had both a 396 big block Camaro RS/SS purchased for $1900 with 17k miles on it in 1975 and a low mileage C2 Coupe; although not a big block.

I never thought that I would ever see the high HP muscle cars ever return as they have with the LS2, LS3 and LS7.

But IMO; CAFE standards this time around will spell the "last hoorah" for the big horsepower, high displacement V8 engines in U.S. passenger cars.

That is exactly why I will add a Z06 in the end of 09 or early 10. Besides, It's on my bucket list and time is running out.
