Default What’s the real deal with heat issues with a Magnuson on the c7?

Maggie owners (not dcasole 😀 ) how does your c7 do temp wise with the big hunk of metal on top of the engine?

I have a 17 GS that I am looking to add a little extra punch to. I drive the hell out of it here in Atlanta and life gets a bit hot in traffic in August.

I like the idea of the instant hit down low with the PD but I have some folks telling me the heat monster is gonna get me all pissed and to go Centri.

Whats the deal?

On another note while my c6 had headers, hi flow cats, cutouts an huge cam and shook the pillars of heaven I may or may not do the exhaust on the c7. It’s nice not having my legs burn on the center console and to be able to take conference calls in it. Is that going to destroy my Hp gains? I am not looking to run 9s here. Just want some more pep in her step.

God I think I am getting old 😢😢😜

I installed mine last Oct so it hasn’t gotten super hot just yet ( SE Texas) but on the hottest day we’ve had so far idling through traffic ( I believe it was in the mid 80’s) I seen 205 coolant temps with an OEM thermostat. Cools down pretty quickly once moving though.

205 isn’t bad for these cars but like you said “It Aint Hot in Texas, YET” 😀

I figure people drive zo6’s in the heat every day and they swap out the factory SC for the Maggy to cool down some 🤷‍♂️

When I had the old Maggie 2300 installed on my stock LT1 engine there was no heat issue (was running stock exhaust manifold with stock cats). The 2650 Maggie should not cause any heat issues

This was in 2017 so I am not 100% sure, but I think it was around 540 rwhp on 7 psi boost/93 octane

Would have a good shop check the installation because that blower has huge cooling bricks and runs cooler than any top mount blower. You shouldn’t have any cooling problems even more with just 600whp. You won’t see heat till 900+whp even the it will only get hot after back to back long pulls in high heat but will cool down quick.

No issues unless something fails that would make a bone stock car overheat. No one has punished these harder than us in hot climates haha.

Is a PD like the Maggie an easier install than a centrifugal on an LT1?

I just wanted to weigh in even though I don't have a Maggie. I have a centri with long tube headers. If you have the NPP mufflers when it's in stealth mode the car is extremely quiet inside. The loudest thing is my bov (bypass) venting to atmosphere which you won't have with a Maggie.

The factory run flats is the only thing that would make taking a call difficult while driving lol.

I’ve done a ton of research since posting this. I would say the Centris are easier. The A2A intercooler appears much easier than the coolant heat exchangers. Both require removal of steering rack due to the crank pulley. The Maggie requires modification to the valve covers which is ridiculous. The only centri that requires no modification to anything is the Procharger. The Procharger also doesn’t require removal of the crank pulley, just the bolt. A&A and ECS require a shift to the ABS module. I’m still considering the Z06 blower but am curious if it’s like the Maggie and requires some modification outside of just the bolt on adapters.
