I have a feeling that a car can sustain damage and be repaired out of pocket with no report to CARFAX. If however a Insurance company is involved it will be reported.

You dont need to have a feeling. This is the truth. If its not reported it will not show.

You also have to be careful what history report you look at. There is a 2015 Z on eBay right now for 54k. The auto check provided by eBay shows no accident or damage. Looking at the Carfax on the dealer website shows rear impact damage. Gotta be careful

It's probably because the autocheck provided to ebay was ordered before the accident occurred. I don't think ebay automatically orders a report when you list the vehicle (although there is probably an option) but I think there is a field where you can add a report LINK manually if you have one ordered.

This isn't necessarily true. Carfax has a bunch of different sources that vary by location and they keep those closely guarded. From pretty good anecdotal evidence, I'm pretty comfortable saying they 1) Get a lot of data from police reports in many areas and 2) Insurance companies are not at the top of the list for data source for them (but I'm sure that is very dependent upon company and maybe state). Body shops are actually another source of data, as either the body shop may report directly, or the software company they use for things like estimating damage and such reports to Carfax even if the body shop doesn't. So it is definitely possible that something that was never reported to insurance still ends up on Carfax, depending upon where the repairs are done.

What I see is a severe lack of professionalism on all 3 entities and zero.accountability on anyone, to include Managers.

If this were my shop, I would have zero compunction to fire someones ***.

Quality service is so hard to find these days.

What a bunch of punks.

**** like this is what makes some people go "Postal."

Again, ive seen it done plenty of times. Police have to be called, so if that doesnt happen now it depends on the place fixing the car, which is very easy to get by. Trust carfax if you want but your eyes and hands will be a better bet.

Not in this case, the damage occurred 12 months ago and the car was traded a couple of months ago.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience, but thank you for keeping everyone here aware. Hopefully a yellow z06 will show up shortly at an honest dealer.
Thank you.

As a used manager of a Chevrolet dealership I look at lots of Carfax reports everyday and can tell you I have never seen one that says damage was reported by insurance company? The only time you will see an insurance company listed on Carfax is when a car was totaled and it now has a rebuilt or branded title. Carfax gets most of its accident history from police reports turned into state DMV's.

So to be clear. They gave you back ALL of the money, (which they didn't have to).

just fyi - A court would have had them repair the bumper if they damaged it. If they didn't damage it, a court would have them re-install it. They didn't have to refund you.

You should probably delete this thread and move on. If you intentionally try to cost a business $, they can come after you in court for damages on the specific vehicle, and or for overall damage. (Again- just fyi)

Its not cool what happened, but things happen ALL the time with vehicles.

If everything he has said is true, there is nothing they can do about it. Slander is when you are telling lies about it and costing a business money. IF he is relaying facts of what happened, he has every right to do it.

The other side can and often does dispute whats true or not, and can result in a bid headache/legal expenses.

Typical car dealer bullshit. FYI it doesn't take much at all to wipe the paint off the underside of the rear hatch. I thought I had something sticky on my 2014 and used some very mild invisible glass and a microfiber towel and big swaths of it came off.
