Default L.A.Auto Show Update

Back from a very rainy drive to L.A. for the unveiling of the new C6 Z06. I'm happy to report that it was worth it!

I have a slideshow album online here, and a video of the C6 vert power-top in action here.

A couple of notes re the Z06 that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere:
  • Available in 6 colors (vs. 5 for C5 Z06): Velocity Yellow, Machine Silver, DSOM, Le Mans Blue, Black, Victory Red
  • Comfort (i.e., non-performance) items will be available as factory options
  • Transmission has same gear ratios as C6 MN6, but ruggedized gearbox
  • New Z06 retains same gearing as before - 3.42
  • Rated at greater than 1G on skid-pad
  • 0-60 "in 3s" in first gear!
Let me know if you have problems viewing or any questions.

Thanks for the pics!

It's nice to see the Z06 in a color other than yellow. :-)

Question: Re: the red vert with the cobalt interior - Which red was the exterior? What was your opinion of the combination seeing it inperson?

thx!

The guy that was giving the info on the Z was obviously not a car guy. He read from notes and looked scared to death. 0-60 in the threes is what he said but that not very accurate.

First, you're welcome. Janet Curran deserves all the credit for arranging the VIP tour we got courtesy of GM.

Funny you should mention about the Yellow Z...
The GM spokesman joked about the accuracy of the Internet. Remember that garage picture that was all over the 'net of the yellow Z parked next to a C6R? That exact photo is inside the Z06 brochure!

I forgot to note which red the vert was (just know it wasn't mag red) - sorry. That is actually the red interior (all dashes are cobalt). I thought the combination would be "too much" but it was actually outstanding in-person. The waterfall and other color-keyed pieces flowed nicely.

Yea and remember there were many people here that thought that picture was a photochop. Part of me kind of hoped it was because then the actual release would show me something new. So the only thing that is new are the actual numbers.

Were you the guy standing next to me? We were joking about that very same thing! Yes, he did seem scared. He was the same guy that didn't want to power-up the vert top so we could catch videos. Oh well... we can cut him some slack. It was a good show (and maybe he was new).

It said Mag Red on the invoice. It looked darker than prior years' Mag Red, at least in that lighting.

The Z51 coupe with 3.42 rear end gets to 49 mph @ 6500 rpm in first. With a 7000 rpm redline and everything else the same, wouldn't teh Z only get to 53 mph in first?

Speaking of numbers... they refused to talk price.

There's your answer ducwad, from someone more observant than me. I do agree that it looked totally different from C5 mag red.

I didn't know that about 49 @ 6500. If so, you raise a good point. Black magic?

Seriously though, that is some serious meat on the back of the Z. Maybe it just launches better.

Kinda . The 3-spoke steering wheel is an improvement, and the 2-tone leather seating was nice. I think I heard it said that the 2-tone leather would be available on all 2006 vettes.
