Huge Blue Devil News From MotorTrend
Without further ado, from page 28 of the September issue of Motor Trend:
(Italics and smilies are mine.)
“UPDATE: CORVETTE BLUE DEVIL
More than 700 horses
Volumes of speculation about the Blue Devil have appeared since we broke news of the car in April 2003 (page 94, “Crystal Ball 2005—Chevrolet Corvette C6”), some of it in print, much of it on the Internet. Not true is a Web site’s insistence that the Ford GT/Dodge Viper-fighter is actually a mid-engine C7 based on the Cadillac Cien concept architecture. Chevrolet is working with a C6 chassis, running a race version of the C6’s 6.0-liter small-block V-8 up front, bored out to 7.0 liters. The development mule’s engine is making—sit down for this—700 to 725 horsepower. Engineers also are working to take as much weight out as possible aiming for a sub-3000-pound car.
Another great number is the price, targeted at $100,000-plus. But costs are potentially prohibitive. If the car is produced at all, it’ll be several years after the Z06 makes its debut in the 2006 model year. There’s a good chance the Blue Devil won’t happen at all.
Mystery also surrounds its name. The early Z06 development muse was painted blue. But we’re guessing the naming is political, designed to persuade GM chairman Rick Wagoner to give the ultrapowerful Corvette the green light. Wagoner is a proud Duke University alum and avid fan of its basketball team, the Blue Devils.—T.L.”

Thanks for the post, but I was told today by Chuck Mallett that the "Blue Devil" program has been cancelled. Who knows, maybe he was just covering up since he does motor testing for the General.

He did mention the Mosler. Thats his personal car and hes going to drop a 4 cylinder in it (over 900 hp) to run in the 4 cylinder class next year for the Motor Trend mag test. BTW, check out his video of his Caddy that won the sedan class this year. 1000+ hp and a topspeed of over 220. That this is beautiful in person.
