Default Isn't $60K for a 500 HP 'Vette wishful thinking?

I guess $60K is possible if sales of the base C6 models tank. But, I just don't
see it; 500 HP is bordering on super car territory. The Ford GT is a perfect
example of a 500 HP car that you'd think a 500 HP 'Vette would be competing
with, and it costs what, $150K? The Viper, as everyone knows, is a
legendary 500 HP car, and it seems like a downright bargain at $82K. Even
the ZR-1 'Vette, with performance comparable to today's Z06, cost right at
$60K back in 1990. Someone please explain to me why this next super 'Vette
will be so cheap. I certainly hope that it is, but if sales of the other C6s soar
and this next 'Vette does indeed have 500+ HP, then I think a lot of us are
going to be priced out; I know I certainly will be.

I would expect pricing to be closer to 65K, but I think that will lose some sales. I'm hoping they keep to 60K. Less would even be better.

I don't think its wishful thinking. That is what Corvette is all about, a top of the line American sports car at an "affordable" price

$60k for a 500 HP 'Vette is not wishful thinking.

$60k for a 500 HP 'Vette with everyone's complaints fixed, however, is. GM has to save money somewhere to keep the Corvette affordable, but some people just can't get that through their thick skulls.

A couple of things that people want that cost more:

Rarity (yeah, that's right, the fewer units there are, the more you have to charge per unit to pay for the R&D and tooling.)

Better paint (to get rid of orange peel would take buffing between every coat, and this takes time. Time is money in the production business. Even 7-series BMWs have orange peel.)

A $60K Z06 with and option to add HP and traction would be GREAT. This would satisfy the masses and let us old farts who have worked all our lives get rid of some of our $$ on performance/rairity before our grandkids spend it.

From what I have heard there will be 2 upgraded C6, a Z06 variant and a the "blue devil". I am guessing that the Z06 will be under 500 hp, probably about 450 and $60k. The blue will be over 500 hp (not much over) and over $90k (new body, lighter, more race inspired).

But what do I know, same as anyone else, it is all just speculation at this point. But I will say that that I am predicting these #'s because C6 speculation was 435-450+ wishful thinking hp, with a 500 Z06 and >500 hp blue devil. Now that we see the C6 at 405 the rest just seems to be the most probable IMO.

I'm relatively sure that the "Blue Devil" is just the C6-R.

You're dead right on all of those points.

I'm just thankful to be a chevrolet-selling car pig who's buying his at friggin' invoice! If they come out with a $100K "blue devil" or whatever you call it, i'll just have to wait a little longer...I'm just thrilled that Chevy is building some high-HP corvettes and that all the other cars in that price-range (and beyond) are going to be seeing nothing but my damn tail lights.

personally i dont think its wishful thinking at all, look at the current z06 prices and figure with increases in technology 95hp gain for several thousand dollars isnt really that unlikely.

Don't forget! Corvette is coming out with 2 more models we haven't seen yet. Why would anyone wanna pay 65k for a standard C6 when the C6 z06 / supervette will be only 10-20k more?

I couldn't bare to think about spending more than $25,000 for a Car any less than 500HP.

I don't understand why you think this is wishful thinking. Everything I've heard says they upgraded the C6 hp to compete with the new GT 'Stangs. The Ford will supposedly be rated around 400hp which is current ZO6 levels. They upgraded the C6 to 405 (just because we can't ever let somebody tell us a stock pukestang is faster than our vette) and then with some engine mods upgraded the ZO6 to 515. I'm not too worried about the cost either. Two years ago I couldn't touch a ZO6 for under 60, but just yesterday I priced out a new one at 53,3! With the cost of current cars coming down, I don't see why the new model couldn't retail for much the same as the first gen ZO6's (i.e. 60-65). Give me 515 HP with the handling and luxury of a vette.....all for 60K.....I'm sold, sign me up!

Guess that all just depends on your style. Personally, I don't think you can beat the luxury of a Corvette that can still pound on 90 percent of the cars out there performance-wise.

I'm just starting to follow some of the C6 info and I have a question. When is the "ZO6" version of the C6 supposed to be available and on the streets? 2005? 2006?

Something about $60K seems really expensive to me (keep in mind I'm a 25-year old student). $59K seems not that bad, though. I know it's only a grand, but there is something about that 60K mark that psychologically takes it to a whole 'nuther level to me.

That being said, I think you can justify charging that much for 500HP.
